Treatment of
sun damaged
skin in winter

Winter is always the best time of year to
treat sun damaged skin, particularly if
laser/IPL treatment for skin rejuvenation
is the solution.
Our skin ages due to sun exposure and decreased
production of collagen. Skin Rejuvenation with
Laser/IPL by Ellipse helps you keep a younger and
fresher look. Now we are coming into winter and
the sun is losing its strength we can take advantage
of treating those brown sun spots or liver spots,
mostly commonly found on the face, chest and backs
of hands.
Ellipse by Nordlys treatment emits short bursts
of intense pulsed light which are directed onto
the skin. The system filters the light to ensure the
wavelengths used are absorbed by haemoglobin
in the fine blood vessels and melanin in the age
spots. When the skin contains a lot of melanin or
haemoglobin the target heats up and is destroyed
within a few thousandths of a second. Therefore the
treatment treats fine thread veins and brown sun
spots in the same treatment!
A full face takes less than 20 minutes to treat. An
improvement will be seen after one treatment, but
up to 3 treatments may be required to achieve a full
effect.
The treatment is virtually pain free, like a flick of a
light elastic band followed by a sensation similar to
the feeling of gentle warmth after a day on the beach.
The light is a completely safe visible light. During
treatment tanning or self-tanning products must be
avoided. Also, sun exposure must be avoided for 30
days and before and after treatment. Also, daily sun
protection of SPF30 must be observed.
After treatment the skin may look a little “dirty”
for a few days, particularly around the areas of
pigmentation. This fades and your skin will look
smoother, clearer and fresher.
You may wish to have 1 - 2 annual maintenance
treatments in order to keep your youthful
appearance.

Bags of business talent
Young entrepreneurs from Queen’s Park High School have come up with a great business idea. Chloe
Wissett, Charlotte Carswell, Ola Los and Louise Coleman, who formed team Holde, successfully pitched
their idea to a board of companies at the Young Enterprise Cheshire and Warrington County Show.
During the academic year, the students have built their business to the success it is today. Their original
idea of a multifunctional strap to carry multiple bags at once was a hit with the judges!
The team showcased their ideas in the form of producing a trade stand, presentation and company
report.

The piece, ‘Primum non nocere’, took
the audience on a journey through
an NHS wait-ing room through to a
subterranean operating theatre space,

The Queen’s Park High School women’s J16 coxless quad team of Gracie Twigg, Beth Henderson-Palmer,
Kiara Parlevliet took gold in the North of England Head 5km race on the River Dee.

and designed a python programme which
they ‘beamed up’ to the International
Space Station (ISS). Astronauts aboard
the space station would then run the code

inside the ISS and display messages
from the students. The European Space
Agency reported that the students’
script successfully ran 300 miles East of
New York over the Atlantic Ocean for 28
seconds!

to reduce
your plastic
footprint
Stop straws - If a straw is a must, instead of
a plastic one purchase a reusable stainless-
steel straw and carry it with you.
Invest in reusable produce bags - A single
plastic bag can take 1,000 years to degrade.
Purchase or make your own reusable
produce bag but be sure to wash them
often.
Give up the gum – Chewing gum is made of a
synthetic rubber which is actually plastic!
Buy boxes over bottles - If your laundry detergent
comes in a box it will be more easily recycled than a
plastic bottle.
Buy from bulk bins - If possible, purchase food, like cereal,
pasta, and rice from bulk bins using your own container
or bag. Not only will you save on packaging you’ll also save
money.
Take your own cup to coffee shops - Some establishments
offer a reduction in price for this!
Ditch the disposables - Disposable nappies are a huge source
of landfill. Modern cloth nappies are nothing like the
monstrosities of yesteryear. Check them out, reduce your
baby’s carbon footprint and save money in the process.
Squeeze your own - Make your own fresh squeezed
juice or eat fruit instead of buying juice in plastic
bottles. It’s healthier and better for the environment.
Lead with your lunch - Pack your own lunch in
reusable containers and bags.
Use a real razor - with replaceable blades instead of
a plastic disposable razor.
These are all simple steps but if more of us follow
them they have the potential to make a big impact
on our joint plastic footprint.
