Associated as the discipline that bridges the gap between basic science and
engineering, Engineering Physics has a very broad spectrum of courses from the
upstream to down, includes the concepting of ideas as far as its applications. The
curriculum covers core sciences, as mathematics, physics, chemistry, even
statistics and electives from several engineering field (electrical, mechanical,
material, chemical engineering). The alumni are expected to be able to solve
technological problems and doing innovative work based on scientific method
and analysis. Student of the Department of Engineering Physics, Institut

Course Structure
The number of semester credit units (SKS) courses that must be taken to complete education in
the Physics Engineering Undergraduate Study Program is 144 in accordance with the minimum
amount requirements stipulated in Permen Ristek & Dikti number 44 of 2015, with the
composition:
A total of 21 courses and 3 courses with a total of 58 credits (40.28%) of the total 144 credits are
courses with the same content and weight for the two Undergraduate Study Programs managed by
the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Physics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah
Mada University namely Bachelor of Physics Engineering Study Program and Nuclear
Engineering Bachelor Study Program. These courses are given a special code TNF and can be
followed simultaneously by students from both study programs.
The curriculum of the Physics Engineering Undergraduate Program for the first year (Semester I
and Semester II) contains 16 SKS mathematics group and 17 SKS basic science groups
accompanied by experimental experience.

EDUCATION
The programme includes basic training in technological and physical modelling,
technological environment issues, materials design, and the role of technology in
society. The students often collaborate on projects. You will specialise in engineering
physics with an emphasis on applications in materials and nanotechnology including
advanced theoretical courses in physics and mathematics as well as in experimental
techniques, simulation and materials modelling. Nanostructured surfaces and solar
cells are examples of areas of specialisation. There are also possibilities too study
other subjects in Karlstad or abroad. An important educational strategy throughout the
programme is the integration of basic subjects such as mathematics and natural
sciences and technical applications. Mathematics is an important tool in engineering
and fundamental for technical understanding. Therefore mathematics is an integral
part of all modules. You will practise generally applicable methods and use the
computer to solve calculations and to see the potentials of modelling.
FORM OF INSTRUCTION
Instruction i given in the form of lectures, classes, practices, laboratory work, and as
project work under supervision.
EXAMINATION
There are no set examination periods, and generally no final exam at the end of a
semester, an academic year, or a complete study programme. Examination usually takes
place at the end of each course, module, or unit.
PROFESSIONAL CONTACT
Contact with organizations that can be future employers evolves through guest lectures
and study visits to a more intimate relation where the students get to know the firm and
its operations and get support in choosing and solving projects through their contact
person in the firm. Students often choose a company they have met during the stduy
period as the partner for their degree projects.
COURSE OF STUDY
Solid Mechanics for Engineering Science I for Master students in engineering science (Obligatory) 7.5
Elective course: Students are free to choose among certain alternative courses,
often depending on their choice of specialisation.
Optional course: Students are free to choose any course offered at Karlstad
University or at other universities. Courses listed are examples of recommended
or frequently chosen courses for a specific program.
