4. Pay and Allowances

The Government of Saudi Arabia will be responsible for

the payment of all pay and allowances including insurance,

pension schemes and educational allowances, due to seconded

personnel according to British Service rules and rates. Her

Majesty's Ambassador in Jedda will request from the Government

of Saudi Arabia each month payment of the amount due to each

officer and will himself arrange for them to be paia. Such

payments will be free of Saudi Arabian taxation.


5. Jurisdiction and Status
The Government of Saudi Arabia will grant officers legal

status and immunities equivalent to those of a diplomatic

agent of the rank of Military Attache. They will also be

entitled to customs free import of their effects under the

franchise of Her Majesty's Ambassador in Jedda. They coula

not, unless the consent of the Government of the United

Kingdom were first obtained, take part in any active non


training operations undertaken by the armed forces of Saudi

Arabia.

6. Travel Expenses

The Government of Saudi Arabia will pay for all movement

and baggage costs both on arrival and departure and when going
on leave, both mid-tour and local, for members of the team and

their dependents, for the visits of their children, for

medical evacuation, ete. The passages will be arranged by the


Government of Saudi Arabia. Members and their dependents wi21

be entitled to first class passages and 100 lbs, accompanied

baggage per person. A free air return passage for one

personal servant and a children's nurse will also be granted

at tourist rates if required. In addition, all members of the

team will be entitled to a heavy accompanied baggage allowance

of up to £75 and the cost of obtaining passports will be


chargeable to the Government of Saudi Arabia.

7. Medical Expenses

The Government of Saudi Arabia will provide normal

medical, dental and hospital treatment up to the standard to

which members and their dependents are entitled when serving

with the British armed forces. Where the local medical

facilities are not adequate in the view of the Head of the

team, the Government of Saudi Arabia will send the personnel

concerned by air to the nearest British Service hospital. The

Government of Saudi Arabia will reimburse the Government of

the United Kingdom for all hospital expenses and transport

costs for medical attention abroad.

8. The Government of Saudi Arabia will pay for a free

passage for a member's next of kin or a near relative to visit

him when he is very seriously 111 in hospital in those cases

in which it is the policy of Her Britannic Majesty's forces to

provide such passages. The British Service authorities will

arrange passages in these cases.


9. Accommodation

The Government of Saudi Arabia will provide without

water and electricity to a standard suitable to each member's

rank and family.

10. Indemnity

All members of the team will be indemnified by the

Government of Saudi Arabia for all sums paid or payable in

respect of costs, damages and any personal costs awarded

against them in civil proceedings arising out of accidents or

incidents occurring during the performance of their military

duty.

11. Transport
The Government of Saudi Arabia will provide each officer

without charge with a car and driver and will reimburse the

officer for any travelling expenses incurred during the course

of his duty.
12. Servants
Each officer will be provided with two servants free of

charge.

13. Withdrawal of Personnel


The Government of Saudi Arabia reserves the right to

request the withdrawal of personnel before the completion of

their full period of duty should circumstances make this

necessary. The Government of Saudi Arabia will be responsible


for paying the return fares of personnel and their dependents

under the following circumstances:


(1) If in the event of his misconduct or for

disciplinary reasons the Government of Saudi Arabia

terminates the employment of a member of the team

such termination shall take effect from the day

following disembarkation in the United Kingdom;

(11) If the member of the team is found temperamentally

or otherwise unsuitable;

(111) If the member of the team aies during secondment his

dependents will be given free passages home;


(iv) If the member of the team through 111 health not

caused through his own misconduct is found

unsuitable for further service in Saudi Arabia;

In exceptional circumstances not provided for under

(1) to (iv) above, when three months notice will

normally be given. In this case the Saudi Arabian

Government will pay personnel as compensation the


inducement pay they would have received had they

completed their full tour. Disembarkation leave

would be granted in the normal way.

The Government of the United Kingdom reserves the right

to withdraw members of the team from Saudi Arabia shoula

circumstances make this necessary, in which event the

Government of the United Kingdom would themselves meet the

cost of return passages.


15. The above arrangements will remain in operation for as

long as the Government of Saudi Arabia and the Government of

the United Kingdom wish them to do so.

16. The Arabic and English texts of this Exchange of Notes

shall be of equal valiai ty.
