Abstract Objectives

This review of children’s use of media and their
responses to it is set within the rapidly changing
media landscape. The review examined four major
aspects of children and media: physical
access,selection and ways of using media, social
contexts of media use, and responses to media
accessed and used. Literature excluded from the
review included the substantive and well-reviewed
children and media violence literature and literature
concerned with children’s health and media use.
Literature selected for review spanned diverse
methodologies, including observational field
research, experimental studies, qualitative
interview and focus group research, surveys, and
studies using innovative methods such as directly
employing new technologies as research tools. In
the remainder of this summary we draw together
the main findings from our review of these diverse
studies.

Hypothesis
A majority of the findings was in agreement
with my hypothesis, the online social
media was producing psychologically
negative results. Much of the research found
that children who use social media are
more likely to engage in self harm, become
victims of bullying and depression.

Introduction
Growing numbers of young children use a variety
of media devices and applications at home (Jones
& Park, 2015), and at an increasingly younger age.
Parents report that their children are using digital
technologies even at the age of one (Mifsud &
Petrova, 2017). Mobile devices have become
especially popular among children aged 0 to 8, with
a large number of families with young children
having smart phones and tablets in the home,
although this has not automatically led to an
increase in digital media use (Common Sense Inc.,
2017), and does not tell anything about the range of
factors influencing how the technologies are
appropriated in the family setting (Plowman,
Stevenson, Stephen, & McPake, 2012).

1. How does devices and gadgets affects children.
2. How does multimedia affects children’s
behavior.
3. Do they use it in a good way?
4. How does it affect their future?
5. Does multimedia can be a good medium in
learning?
