Hello! Good morning, ladies and gentlemen

Before I start, I want to ask all of you! Do you know about palliative care?
Palliative care is the treatment of improving the quality of life of patients and families in
the face of life-threatening diseases. Palliative care is carried out in patients with diseases that
can limit the patient's life or terminal disease that cannot respond with curative treatment.
Palliative care helps people with life threatening diseases facing their psychological and social
relations problems.
Okay if you want to know more about what problems will appear in palliative care,
please refer to my explanation!
The problem that often present in patients with palliative care the first is a psychological
problem. According to Damayantri A, Fitriyah, Indriani (2008), Psychological problems in
people with terminal disease are caused by changes in the patient's self-concept. For example
hair loss or weight loss, and stress due to treatment effects. As a palliative care provider must be
able to control the patient's negative feelings and keep the patient from having a positive outlook
on himself and his future, identify and maintain satisfaction with oneself and their abilities,
encouraging families to maintain a positive outlook on patients.
The second is a social problem. Social problems in people with terminal disease are
caused by a decrease in the mental and physical functioning of the patient threatening the social
interaction. For example the patient wants to be visited, but the patient feels that way, or the
people who visit him are shocked and uncomfortable. This unpleasant social interaction can
make patients begin to withdraw from their social life by restricting people to visit themselves.
As a palliative care provider must be able to maintain good relationships with family and friends,
help patients prepare for an uncertain future (Damayantri A, Fitriyah, Indriani, 2008).
So the problem faced by palliative patients is psychological and social problems, we as
nurses must pay more attention to the patient's feelings after symptoms of the disease appear.
In conclusion, if we as palliative care providers attention to the two aspects above the
patient towards the end of his life will feel more appreciated and more peaceful. Moving from
here, we as nurses care more and listen to complaints of patients with terminal disease! Because
only with palliative care can we help it to make the patient comfortable without feel pain.
Thank you for your attention, and good morning!
