Solid Geometry or Solid mensuration – deals mainly with the surfaces areas, volumes of different solids

and other relations between geometric figures.

The study of plane geometry sets the fundamental for the study of solid or space geometry.

Plane geometry deals with the measurement and the properties of geometric figures which lie in a single
plane while solid geometry deals with the measurement and the properties of geometric figures which
do not lie in one plane.

In solid geometry we investigate figures resembling the classroom desk (a rectangular solid) in that they
have flat surfaces(planes), straight edges (lines) and corners (points). We are also concerned with
curvilinear figures such as balls (spheres), tanks and pipes (cylinders) cones and other figures.

Faces, edges, vertices

Edges – the line segments that form the skeleton of the solid shape

Faces – flat surfaces like the front or the top of the box

- A face for a solid shape is a two dimensional shape

Vertices – the corners where the edges meet

Eulers formula

F+V-E = 2 for most of the regular solids
