Classroom Management

Classroom management is an important aspect when being a teacher. The educator needs

to know how to handle the classroom and how to do so correctly. By building relationships with

both students and parents, setting rules and expectations with the students, and implementing

routines, classroom management can be a success.

I believe one of the most important things as a teacher is building relationships with

students. Students need to feel welcome in the classroom and by building relationships within the

classroom, they will feel safe and involved. I will ask my students daily how they are, how their

weekends were, what they like to do for fun, and many other questions to develop these positive

relationships with them. I plan to attend my students’ extracurricular activities, and other outside

school events that they may be involved in.

Next, routines should be implemented daily. This allows the students to know what to

expect when they get to class. All students need some form of routine. I will start the class period

off with review from what was taught the class period before. The students will work on this

quietly for a few minutes. Working quietly allows the students to get their minds focused on the

content and to find themselves within the class.

Thirdly, I believe rules and expectations should be set within the classroom. Students

should be involved when making the rules in the classroom. If the students are involved when

setting the rules, they will likely remember the rules and follow them. There should only be

about five rules implemented into the classroom. Once there are too many rules made, the

students will have a tough time remembering them.

Lastly, an educator should have a positive relationship with parents. Within the first week

of school, the teacher should have communicated with each parent. This allows the teacher and
the parent to have a positive relationship. That way, when a difficult situation comes up with a

parent, it will not be the first conversation with them. Starting with a positive conversation with a

parent is essential. Parents need to be involved within the student’s school live and by

communicating effectively with the teacher, a positive school year will be in store.

All in all, classroom management is an extremely important aspect in education. A

teacher needs to be able to have excellent classroom management to make it a learning

environment for all students. By developing positive relationships with students and parents,

setting a list of rules and procedures developed both by the students and the teacher, and setting

routines in the classroom, classroom management can diminish the negative behaviors.
