Practicing empathy is one of the most important things you need to learn.

In the world that full of


hatred and anger, spending so much time picking at flaws empathy can help you and others and achieve
a fulfilling and healthier lives. Empathy means you need to put yourself in their shoes and be aware and
sensitive in their feelings.
SITUATION: your friend are having a financial problem because her/him mom died and s/he need to
stop their study because they don’t have enough money to pay tuition fee.
These are the following you need to do to show empathy
1. LISTEN: is one of the effective way to indicate empathy to other. Listen with purpose not
strained listening. Look person in the eye and don’t let your gaze drift over the place because it
feels like you are not paying attention to the persons talking.
2. FOCUS YOU ATTENTION: pay attention to your surroundings and also the persons feelings,
expression and actions.
3. DON’T JUDGE: stop judging because technically you are not a judge and you’re not in the
supreme court. Try to gain a deeper understanding of someone’s perspective without offending
or saying bad things to them.
4. OPEN UP: you need to exchange experience and thought to each other to build a trust. Opening
up emotionally is the most bravest things to do.
5. LEAN: give them a hug, or tap their shoulder as a sign of “it’s okay, you’ll be fine”
