SUCCESSION PLAN
In a private institution like Immaculate Conception Child Development Center, Inc., it is
imperative to prepare for possible employee departures. Be it planned or unplanned, it is the
school’s prerogative to be ready for these untimely occasions. Turnovers are inevitable, so the
school needs to know exactly who’s going to step up and how. Planning and development of
employees should be simultaneous. If ever a gap occurs, the candidates should be ready to step in
and take over immediately.
ICCDC follows a simple yet organized succession planning guidelines:
1. Identify the key roles and determine which ones would cause the biggest interruption, if the
positions were vacated.
2. Identify and find the most suitable candidate or candidates for each key position even before the
vacancy occurs.
3. Prepare these candidates by mentoring, making them attend seminars and on-the-job trainings
and other skill-enhancing opportunities.
Through the years, ICCDC has seen many employees come and go. And each time such
situations happen, the school has always been ready to let others fill in. There are standards that
the school follows in order to select the best candidate for the position so as to minimize future
complications. Aside from educational attainment, the school also considers a candidate’s tenure of
service, personality and efficiency in working. Some specific standards are as follows:

For positions such as Principals, Assistant Principals and Coordinators:


 PhD, or MA degree or units
 LET Passer
 A considerable number of years in service
 Trainings and seminars attended
 Personal achievements
 Has undergone supervisory trainings
 Physically, emotionally and morally fit
 Has the knowledge and skills of organizing and managing an educational institution

The school owners and the board of directors also reserve the right to select a candidate
depending on his performance and contributions to the school. This is also taken into consideration
added on top of educational attainment and achievements.

SUCCESSION PLAN
Should the need for an immediate turnover arise, ICCDC will follow a general succession
protocol, based on the school’s organizational chart. The next highest in position and rank should
take the place of the vacated position directly or until a better and more competent replacement
has been found. This structure is also under consideration from the board members and they still
have the final decision. But until then, this succession plan will be followed to prevent any extended
vacancies, thus, preventing the disruption of the system.

Shown below is the hierarchy of ranks and positions that can take over an empty post:

Principal (Mrs. Trinidad L. Gonzales)


^Assistant Principal (Mr. Edgardo R. Corbez)
^Coordinators (Academic and Non-academic)
^Club Moderators, Subject Teacher Leaders and SMEs (Subject Matter Experts)

Teachers’ rank, on the other hand, will get promoted provided that they meet the minimum
requirements set by the administration. There is no direct succession, but promotion to a higher
rank is possible. This is similar to the public school system. Each tier entitles the qualified teachers
to a number of benefits not found in the lower tiers.

Teacher 1 (T1) – Bachelor’s degree, non-LET passer


Teacher 2 (T2) – Bachelor’s degree, LET passer
Teacher 3 (T3) – Bachelor’s degree, LET passer, with MA units
Teacher 4 (T4) – Master’s degree (in any field)
Teacher 5 (T5) – PhD degree (in any field)

Having such hierarchy entitles any teacher to get promoted and enjoy more benefits from
the school. Any tier from T2 up may get promoted and selected for a higher post such as Academic
and Non-academic Coordinators and Club Moderators.
Note that for a T3, T4 or T5 to get promoted to higher ranks like Assistant Principal and
Principal, the candidate must possess MA in Educational Management. If the candidate does not
have the required field of specialization, the administration reserves the right to decide about this
matter and may let a candidate take over if their qualifications were met.

SUCCESSION PLAN
In view of this succession plan, the school has created different committees to handle
respective jobs.

A. Performance Screening Committee (PSC)


A committee dedicated to looking for success indicators in the performance of each teacher.
The committee selects possible candidates for a position, open or not, based on how the teacher has
performed his or her duties over the years. Performance indicators like class observation reports
are then recorded and tabulated by the PSC and reported to the Candidate Selection Committee for
further discussion. The committee is composed of the Subject Area Coordinators, Academic
Coordinator and Assistant Principal.

B. Candidate Selection Committee (CSC)


The committee designated to considering the reports from the PSC and taking teacher’s
individual performance into account for promotion or succession recommendation. The committee
is composed of the Assistant Principal and Principal, and will then report to the administrators and
board of directors for final screening and approval.

After the administrators and the BOD approve the selected candidates, the final list will then
be released and the candidates shall be informed through a formal written letter. Note, however,
that this may still be revoked should the candidate commit any serious offense as stipulated in the
employee’s handbook.

Supervisory Training and Performance Development Plan


The school lets candidates attend supervisory trainings as part of their performance
development plan. Each teacher is given a fair chance to improve in their chosen field or if the
teacher plans to take on a higher role in the school. Seminars and other skill-oriented trainings are
also available for interested teachers. As such, teachers are also required to create their own
performance development plan for a clearer view of their initiative to improve.

Overall, it is the intention of ICCDC to make successions dynamic and more accessible to
teachers. The school puts value in the effort of each teacher to better themselves and, in return, help
keep the system intact and secured in the years to come.
