Instructions: Solve the following problems on a separate sheet of paper. Box your final answer and summarized it
in the table provided in the last page of this test question. No partial point(s) will be given to unrelated
concepts and solution.

1.1. In Nigeria, the rate of deforestation is 5.25% per year. If the decrease in forest in Nigeria is
exponential, how long will it take until only 25% of the current forests are left?

1.2. In the given series of numbers 1, 1, ½, 1/6 1/24…. Find the 7th term.

2.1. An experiment consist of selecting three items from a box of several items. The three items are classified
as defective (D) or non-defective (N) as they are selected. Give the sample space for this experiment. Which
outcomes are in the events A, B, C where A is exactly one defective

2.2. A box contains 58 red marbles, 14 yellow marbles, 28 blue marbles, all the marbles are of the same size.

2.3. A box contains 5 defective and 195 non-defective cellphones. A quality control engineer selects 2 cell
phones at random without replacement. What is the probability that neither is defective?

3.1. A father wants to set aside money for his 5 year old son’s future college education. Money can be deposited
in a bank account that pays 8% per year, compounded annually. What equal deposits should be made by the father,
on his son’s 6th through 17th birthday, in order to provide Php 5000 on the son’s 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st
birthdays?

3.2. A small entrepreneur invested a capital of P80,000 for a buy and sell business. He estimated to have a
gross income of P25,000 annually and on operating cost of P6,000 annually. It is assumed the business to have a
life over 10 years. If the rate of interest is 12%, Compute the benefit cost ratio.

3.3. An equipment cost P480,000 and has a salvage value of 10% of its cost at the end of its life of 36,000
operating hours in a period of 5 years. In the first year of service, it was used for 12,000 hours. If at the
end of 2nd year, it was used for 15000 hours, find the depreciation at the end of the second year.

3.4. Determine the appropriate size of annual payment needed to retire P70,000,000. In bonds issued by a city
plan to build a dam. The bonds must be repaid over a 50 year period and at annual rate of 6% compounded
annually.

3.5. A man borrowed Php. 100,000 and promised to pay after 5 months at a simple interest of 8% per month. How
much will the man pay?

variable cost is P67.00 per unit. The fixed monthly cost is P316,000.00. If each item is to be sold at P425.00,
determine the number of units that must be produced per month in order to break even.

4.1. Determine the degree of simple curve whose central angle is 26 degrees, if the shortest distance from the
curve to the point of intersection of the tangents is 7.54m. Use arc basis.

4.2. A reversed curve of equal radii connects two parallel tangents 12m apart. The length of the chord from P.C.
to P.T. is 140m. Determine the radius of the curve.

4.3. With the transit at point B line of sight horizontal, the stadia intercept C is 1.15m. If the stadia
interval factor is 100.32 and the stadia constant is 0.3, find the distance BC.

4.4. A line of levels, 6km long is run between A and B with average backsight and foresight distances of 150m.
the average backsight reading is 8.8m and each time it is taken the rod is inclined sidewards from the vertical
by 5 degrees. What is the correct elevation of B if its recorded elevation is 425.15m?

4.5. A student was asked to measure a straight line sing 25m tape which is 0.0021m too long. What is the
required measurement?

4.6. A car travelling at a speed of 65mph approached a hazard and travelled 72.20m during the perception
reaction time. What was the drivers PIEV (perception, identification, emotion and volition) time in seconds?

the barge in meters when transporting 5000bags of cement along a river, each bag having a mass of 40kg. Assume
the specific gravity of water in the river to be 1.02.

5.2. A spherical balloon 6m in diameter is filled with gas weighing 5kN/m3 in standard air weighing 12kN/m3, what
is the maximum load in kN excluding its own weight? That the balloon can lift?

5.3. Determine the pressure in a vessel of mercury at a point 200mm below the liquid surface, express your
answer in kPa absolute.

5.4. Water flows through a rectangular irrigation canal, 5mm deep by 1m wide, with a mean velocity of
2m/s.Determine the rate of flow in m3/min.
