Odyssey ​Analysis

Prompt: ​The Odyssey is nearly 3000 years old and it is one of the most commonly read stories
in high school and college literature courses. The question is, why? Why does this story
continue to interest people? Why are people of today still able to connect to Odysseus? What
makes this story memorable?

In this paper you will answer the question: Is ​The Odyssey​ worth reading, and why? You will
follow a three topic thesis outline and base each point on the following three subjects:
● Is Odysseus an interesting character? Why/why not?
● Which supporting characters make ​The Odyssey ​interesting? (think of a few)
○ Or do the supporting characters make the story boring? (say which ones)
● Why do authors continue to use the Heroic Journey plot line?

Thesis: ​A thesis statement tells readers what your paper is going to be about. It summarizes
your ideas and thoughts on the paper’s main question. Your thesis statement is in the
introductory paragraph and repeated again in the conclusion paragraph. It’s important to come
up with a thesis statement first so you know how to write the rest of your paper.
