PROJECT 1: FACTORS AFFECTING SLEEPING DISORDER AMONG THE STUDENTS

GROUP : AS1204_18
1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

What is sleeping disorder? Sleeping disorder is one of the disease that often occur to
students. Sleeping disorder can effects our health, safety and quality of life. For example that
effect our health is student will feel exhausted the whole day and effect the student daily
activities. It will also effect our safety for instance when we are driving, we will accidently
dozed off. There are many types of sleep disorders. For example is insomnia. Insomnia is
the common sleeping disorder among students. It is when we are difficult to fall asleep or
stay asleep throughout the right time. Next is Sleep Apnea. Sleep Apnea is when we
experience abnormal pattern in breathing while we are sleeping. Restless Leg Syndrome
(RLS) is the most uncommon sleeping disorder. It is a type of sleep movement disorder. It
also can be called Willist-Ekbom disease. It is cause an uncomfortable sensation while we
try to fall asleep. Lastly, Narcolepsy is a condition that characterized by extreme sleepiness
during the day and falling asleep suddenly during the day.

The effects of not getting enough sleep are memory issues, weakened immunity, risk
of getting heart disease and risk of getting diabetes. There are effects for oversleeping too
which are weight gain, headaches, backpain and fatigue.

There are a few factors that might be the causes of sleeping disorder which are,
overdose of caffeine, playing video games or social media, do the assignment at midnight
and stress. Normal sleeping hours for students are 9 p.m or 10 p.m to make it enough 8
hours of sleeping hours. The normal range of sleeping hours for students is 7 to 9 hours.

There are ways to cure this disease. Firstly, we must change our diet. Do not
consume too much caffeine. Secondly, do not play electronics devices before sleep because
it will stimulates the brain that we need to stay awake. Thirdly, as a student we must done
our assignment early so that it will not disturb our sleeping pattern or hours. Lastly, use the
bed only for sleeping and not for do some working or eating.

1.2 OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this project is to identify the factors affecting sleeping problem or sleeping
disorder among the students from various faculties of UiTM Perak Tapah Campus Branch.
Next, to identify the best solutions how to get enough sleep to avoid this sleeping disorder
problems.

1
1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

This study is to bring the awareness to the students about the important of having a good
and enough sleep. In addition it is to carry out the best solutions to get enough sleep among
the students. As we can see sleepless could give a several effect. For examples, sleepy at
day time, dizziness, have a work issue and others.

Thus, we should have a good and enough sleep to prevent any unwanted effects
even a small problem. Having a good sleep can maintain a quality of mental and physicals. It
is important to keep our body healthy. This can eventually affect the academic contribution.
Students can keep on the flow of study as they control their sleeping period.

1.4 LIMITATION OF STUDY

The subjects of this study is from UiTM Perak Tapah Campus Branch students. The sample
taken is 40 samples and all samples are random sample from various faculties. Other, the
problems of this survey is the students may not give the best respond according to the
question. Due to the time limitation and also the number of students, the report may not
going to get the balance respond from each faculties of UiTM Perak Tapah Campus Branch.

1.5 SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

The sampling technique that was used for this survey is cluster. A Cluster sampling is
obtained by selecting all individuals within random selected collection or group of individuals.
Consider a quality control of students who involved in this survey and filling all of the
questionnaire needed. To obtained the sample, the link of the google form was given to each
of the faculties social online group (Whatsapp).

However, it would be time consuming waiting next students to fill the google form.
From that, we have control the movement of the google link in each online group of the
faculties. In content, the sampling method would be randomly select a few from each
faculties. Plus, this is the good sampling method in this situation because it would speed up
data collection process.

2
1.6 DATA COLLECTION METHOD

The population of this survey involving students of UiTM Perak Tapah Campus Branch from
all faculties which are Applied Sciences, Accounting, and also Science Computer and
Mathematics.Next the sample of this survey is about 40 students from UiTM Perak Tapah
Campus Branch from all of the faculties.

The data collection method of this survey was online survey which by google form
questionnaire. This method is a questionnaire that the target audience can complete over
the internet. Online surveys are usually created as Web forms or google form with a
database to store the answers and statistical software to provide analytics. Then, there are
many advantages of online survey. For examples, low cost, need no monitor the
interviewers, enough time to answer the surveys and no gestures from the interviewers to
effect the response obtained. However, there also have some disadvantages like low rate of
response, cannot provide any help and those who answer the questionnaire may not always
be the ones to whom the questionnaire is addressed to-non representative sample. Thus, all
of the problem was not affected seriously on this survey.
