AN 300

1 Description

The Multi Display is a universal indicating instrument for a variety of parameters

( DEPTH, WIND, ROT, HDG and more according to EN 61162--1 [NMEA 0183] )
for long distance reading.
It contains two rows of red--dotted matrix led fields for various alphanumeric in-
dications.
The Multi Display comes with an integrated dimmer to adjust the brightness to
the environmental conditions. External dimming is possible by an optional dim-
mer.
The unit has two switches on the front display. They are used for multiple selec-
tion, on the one hand for dimming, otherwise for selecting different functions.

2 Installation and maintenance

2.1 Installation

VERY IMPORTAND

The ships power supply to the Multi Display Unit needs a external fuse
It must be: 1 ampere slow

The AN 300 Multi Display can be installed into a bulkhead mounted separate
case, as seen in fig 1--1, or in a single or multiple casing for in desk mounting or
ceiling mounting.
For drill holes look up dimensions in the attached drawings page
LEERER MERKER or
page LEERER MERKER .

According to chapter 4.3 electrical connections should be made.

Connect power supply 9--40Vdc to pin 1 (+V, black) and pin 9 (0V Gnd, grey ),
and data input to pins 2 (brown) and 7 (blue) to the serial source with data in
compliance with EN 61162--1 (NMEA 0183) and Anschuetz course bus stan-
dard. Pin 2 shall be connected to Rx (RS232) or -- (RS422) and pin 7 to Gnd
(RS232) or + (RS422).
When an external dimmer shall be connected use pins 3 (red) and 8 (violet)
with ground on pin 8 and signal attached to pin 3.

2.2 Maintenance

In case of malfunction of the display change complete unit. There are no user
repairable parts inside.

For cleaning use a damp cloth, maybe with some soft detergents.
Don’t use abrasive cleaners or solvent cleaners!

3 Operation

3.1 Selection of functions

The multi display unit can be set into different function modes. The different
functions supplied in the multi display AN 300 are as followed:
S Dimming > brighten or dim the light
S Test > tests the function of the display LEDs
S Program > shows program version of display software
S Input > shows the actual input telegram and the last three selected
input telegrams
S Config > change of input telegram.

To start the function selection press both buttons simultaneously for about five
seconds. To get to the next function, just press the lower button. The upper but-
ton will then act as a selection button within that function. A program is chosen
after 10 seconds the last button is touched. The capacitive buttons sense the
touch, but there is no tactile feedback to the user.

3.1.1 Dimming
Touch the upper button sign to lighten the display stepwise or touch the lower
button to darken the display stepwise.
After power off the last display brightness level used is kept in memory and will
return.

Option
External Dimmer:
The Multi Display Unit can be connected to an external dimmer.
The external dimmer has priority to the internal.

3.1.2 Test
Press both button signs simultaneously for five seconds to enter the menu func-
tions.
The first function is the display test. After the word “Test” is shown press the up-
per button and all LEDs will light up.

3.1.3 Program
The next function is named the PROGRAM function shown as “Prog”. The ac-
tual implemented software version of the display is shown by pressing the up-
per button.
3.1.4 Input
The third function “Input” shows the actual selected telegram flashing whereas
the last three programs are marked as “--1” in the upper line as the last pro-
gram, “--2” as the second last one and “--3” as the third last program. In the
lower display line the group letter and telegram number are drawn. See table in
3.1.6 later in this document. This function is used to see which functions were
used on this display previously. To scroll through the last functions press the up-
per button.

3.1.5 Configuration
In the last function “Confi” you can select the desired display telegram. It can be
one out of about 90 data telegrams. The topline shows the type of data and the
lower line shows the value. Depending on the selected data type the value is
displayed in up to five digits. Tenth of the value are indicated in a smaller digit.
A list of available indications/data telegrams is found in the following table.
After you have selected this configuration--function, press the upper button to
select the telegram group indicated by the group letter and the indication name.
For selecting the desired telegram press the lower button until the telegram is
shown with group letter and telegram no. and the indication. About ten seconds
after the last touch of a button the selected telegram will be displayed. If no
data input is available the indication and five bars will be shown. Check if data
is available and connected or select a different telegram.
For group letter, indication and telegram no. and other information see the fol-
lowing table.
