IV. PROCEDURE:

A. DRILL: Read each sentence carefully and write the appropriate transitional devices in developing a good sentence.

1. The economy looks like it is improving. Therefore/However, with unemployment still very high, we are far from passing through
the recession.

2. Getting a degree from law school is a great accomplishment. In the contrary/In addition, it does not guarantee that one will have a
job after graduation.

3. The Catholic Church has faced many struggles. However/In addition, child molestation may be the biggest challenge the Pope and
the clergy must resolve in recent times.

4. Do you enjoy completing these grammar exercises? Then/Yet, you should be able to improve your writing skills in no time!

5. Without getting a college degree, it will be difficult to get a job. Moreover/However, some will say, “It’s not what you know, but
who you know.”

B. REVIEW:

1. What are transitional devices?

2. What are the different functions of a transitional devices?

C. PREPARATION:

Introduced to the students, the SPECTRUM as a prepation activity. In this pre-activity the teacher will post a
question of a relevant issue to see the range of students’ beliefs and values. The teacher will ask them to agree or
disagree to the various issue. Then after that, the teacher will let at least let three students to explain their side of the
issue

D. DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY:

ACTIVITY PROPER:
1. Divide the class into four groups. Assign a group leader.

2. Each of the questions below will be assigned to each group.

 Should girls ask guys out?


 Is fashion important?
 Does age matter in relationship?
 Do you allow your parents to interfere with the course you are going to
pursue?
3. The leaders will pick the group’s stand.

4. Once your group knows your stand on the issue, think of three valid arguments to defend it.

5. Present your arguments through a creative interpretation such as role play presentation, artwork, talk show and speech.

ANALYSIS:
1. Based on the activity that you have conducted, how did you gather your arguments?

2. What are the ways that your group did in order to cater the limited time to create your arguments?

3. How does it feel to deliver your views on a particular issue?


E. ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY:

ABSTRACTION:

1. Through the activity, can you define a position paper?


2. What do you think are the goals of position paper?

APPLICATION:
The teacher will ask the learners to read a sample position paper below and fill-in the chart that
comes after it. (Refer to the activity sheets given to students)

Title of the sample position paper: “Energy Use and Climate Change - Perspectives for
sustainable growth?!”
