Logic Indicators
• The vertical logic identifies what the project • To ensure that an objective or project progress are
intends to do, clarifies the causal relationships and measurable it must be accompanied by indicators which
specifies the important assumptions and specify the information required.
uncertainties beyond the project manager's • To specify the format in which the information should be
control. made available (e.g. progress reports, project accounts,
• The horizontal logic relates to the measurement of project records, official statistics etc.)
the effects of, and resources used by, the project • It is important to establish ways of measuring the progress
through the specification of key indicators for that is being achieved.
performance measurement (monitoring), and the
means by which the measurement will be verified.

Sources of Verification Example

At the same time, the means of measurement of the
indicators should also be specified.
This column should specify:
• who should provide the information
• how regularly it should be provided (e.g. monthly,
quarterly, annually etc.).
If an indicator is found to be too expensive or
complicated to collect, it should be replaced by a
simpler, cheaper indicator.
