Declaration of Intent (Lesson Plan)

Mini beasts.
Individual/small group/ large group: 4 Year old-blue group
Day/date: 13/09

Data gathered:
• Enjoy craft
• Being outdoors
• Reading stories
• Bush kinder
Intentions/objectives: What do you want children to learn or know
• Have a strong connection to the land.
• Use of natural materials.
• Recognise their ability to create their own toys.

Learning experiences to be implemented: By whom:

Using the natural materials collected at bush kinder children will have the opportunity to create
their own “mini beast” or an insect that we would find outdoors. This is an opportunity to combine
the interests children have of craft, bush kinder and being outdoors. Children are able to use their
mini beast for dramatic play once they have finished.

Rationale (reason for plan, how does the experience meet the intention):
Curriculum links
The use of natural fallen materials from the bush kinder setting allows children to feel connected
to the land we have visited. As we collect the materials I will speak about the different tools
Aboriginal people may have made with these products.

VEYLDF:
Outcome 1 & 2: This experience will help children to recognise how they value the world around
them while allowing those children who don’t wish to participate to not participate.
Outcome 4: Children are actively learning by exploring the world around them through their
senses.

2

Marrung:
Outcome 1: By exploring the use Aboriginal people had for the materials children are becoming
more aware and creating respect.

Provisions (space, materials, time, presentation):

Natural materials (sticks, seed pods, leaves, acorns, pine cones etc.), glue, googly eyes, pipe
cleaners.
Collection through out bush kinder, will make mini beasts once we return or next week.

Role of the educators:

Facilitate discussion regarding Aboriginal resources/tools.

How will you document what happens?

Observe conversations, take photos.

Critical Reflection (What are the possible equity considerations for this experience?)

Children who don’t wish to participate miss out on the vital conversations regarding Aboriginal
culture and history.

What next: forward planning

Extend on the conversation regarding Aboriginal culture and history.
