MANAGEMENT OF THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY ENVIRONMENTS OF THE STUDY

Dye in waste water is recognized as one of the root causes of environmental

pollution (Gita, Hussan, & Choudhury, 2016). Reducing dye content of waste water

requires broad knowledge about adsorption and other processes regarding the derivation

of activated carbon from coal and other sources such as the common water hyacinth. It

involves contribution of people from different disciplines including Limnologists,

Environmental Protection Technicians, Mineralogists, Chemical Engineers, etc.

The study aims to enhance the dye adsorption of activated carbon derived from

water hyacinth, particularly malachite green and Congo red. The study focuses more on

the improvement of the material derived from an alternative source. To improve the study,

the researchers must cooperate with other disciplines.

Chemical Engineers help by improving the processes involved in the study,

specifically the production of activated carbon from common water hyacinth and its

infusion with kaolinite clay. Applying modern technology in these processes promotes

better and more efficient production. Chemical Engineers also help in the analysis of

physical and chemical properties of materials in order to determine which ones are

suitable for the process.

Limnologists can help the study by collecting water sample data characteristics

such as temperature, dissolved oxygen, velocity of water, phytoplankton productivity, and

sedimentation rates of water hyacinth-free water bodies. These data will further support

the advantages of using water hyacinth as activated carbon.

With the help of the environment protection technicians, the impact of dye in the

environment, particularly in bodies of water, can be distinguished by monitoring and

investigating the sources of dye pollution and contamination. Thus, providing additional

information on the effect of dye not only in the environment but also in living things.

Mineralogists contribute to the study by improving the quality of kaolinite clay

through performing chemical, heat, and other tests to identify its properties such as

chemical, physical and crystalline structure that affects its adsorption efficiency.
