Q2-2019

NEWSLETTER
Dear Colleagues
I am very pleased to introduce to you this newsletter with a fresh new look and a very
rich content that you will soon discover.
This newsletter marks a new era for Archetype. After a first phase of organic growth,
followed by a second phase of expansion with the acquisition and integration of Tebodin
APAC, we are now going into the third phase of our development, with the official
relocation of our headquarters to Paris, France.
This phase promises to present us with interesting experiences and it is the result of our
vision of “Being a leading construction consultancy for world-class projects”.
Thanks to this relocation, we will be able to accompany, in a better and more upstream
way, our French and European clients to every corners of the globe. We have actually
started the momentum with the signatures of our first contract in South America (Brazil)
for Diana, and our first contracts in Africa (Ivory Coast and Cameroon) for Bollore.
As a result, I have now just moved to France to drive this new international development
and I will remain the Group General Director. There will be no other organizational change
and most of our group team will remain in Asia, since this market will still represent more Pierre-Jean Malgouyres
than 85% of our activity in 2019. You will see me at least once a year in your respective General Director
country since I will be back in Asia every 2 to 3 months for 1 to 2 weeks, for those who
might miss me ;)
Within the coming months and years, you can expect to see a lot of direct and indirect benefits from this
relocation of our headquarters, as it will generate new opportunities and challenges, for each of you to explore
new territories, develop yourselves and be part of an amazing story.
Today, and together, we are “Shaping Tomorrow”!
Best regards,
Pierre-Jean

Dear Archetype readers and Tomorrow’s shapers,

COLLABORATION
Collaboration between Archetype entities is a vital component and a unique strength of our
business model, giving us the opportunity to have access to missing expertise and allowing
each entity to sustain its activity in tough times. It is in our D.N.A.
Yet… is it put to the test from time to time? Yes…but the good news is that it can be
overcome in a smoother way than usual.
We could start by tackling the challenges of communication issues, different client care

Group Operations &

But…what if interoffices collaboration challenges could be mitigated by solving inter teams challenges, within
your own entity?
Working effectively as a team is not an innate quality for the majority. This requires "work", both on oneself
and on the organization. Here are a few tips:

"collaboration", from the Latin collaborare:

"to work (laborare) together".

A CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY TREND TO WATCH

As systems are pulling more and more information,
Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning we will need tools to manage all this data.
and Predictive Analytics This is where Machine Learning will become
crucial. For an increased efficiency in the
management of our projects, tools that combine and organize data are going to be more vital, as we will
be more reliant on real-time information. Artificial Intelligence (AI) categorizing data faster than a human
being will allow us to cut the time needed to get the clearest picture of issues.
Predictive analytics combining data collection, modeling, statistics, machine learning and AI to analyze
data and make future predictions will be more and more developed.
These systems, not only providing information, but looking ahead and giving us an advance insight (into cost,
scheduling, safety, etc…) will allow a completely different approach to problem-solving, to anticipate issues
and opportunities and give us predictive insight into critical decisions.
There are already several interesting options available on the market, where this technology is used, such
as automatically calculating risk metrics from visual information (taken by on-site cameras) and years of
historical data, using artificial intelligence to tag in advance potential hazards and safety violations. Proactive
management.
This is just the beginning and we can surely expect innovative applications of machine learning in the coming
months and years!

FOOD, PHARMA AND CHEMICAL – ARCHETYPE’S THREE INDUSTRY PRIORITY

TARGET SECTORS
Industry is now an important part of Archetype activity. The competition is tough on some sectors such as
Automotive or Logistic where our added Value is limited because of the simplicity of the design that you can
summarize to a simple box.
We have inherited thanks to our last acquisitions to Process teams that are currently quite active in Indonesia,
India, Thailand and China, and such teams can support other countries. Few competitors have such capabilities
in-house, and such capabilities are actually strategic for some sectors. They are a very strong differentiation
factor in some sectors where we have already exposed quite a lot in all Asia: Food & Beverage, Pharmaceutical
& Cosmetics, and Chemical.
Without ignoring other sectors where we could bring some added value where engineering is scarce, Archetype
strategy is therefore to give priority to such 3 sectors.
Now, following our Client requirements, in order to be able to offer the most complete solution, we have
decided to partner with Rieckerman who have definitely a strong knowledge in Pharmaceutical Process and in
GMP (Good Manufacturing Process). With the strong process capability, we gain by having Rieckerman as their
partner, and we are both confident that our partnership will be able to help them succeed in their projects
given our experience and track record in the design of pharmaceutical facilities.
About Food & Beverage, especially on breweries sector, Archetype has a significant track record of breweries
in South East Asia. With Heineken, Carlsberg, Khmer Brewery, Ab Inbev,.. again, in order to be closer to our
Clients, Archetype has decided to cooperate with Alex de Smet, a senior consultant from Belgium who has
a long experience of process design for Brewery. Thanks to this cooperation, we will be able to increase
our coordination with our Clients, but also to provide the full Beer process, with a concept and Basic design
provided by Alex, and Design Development with local Archetype process teams.

ARCHETYPE KIDS' DAY
Making beautiful childhood memories: Archetype
Mongolia celebrated the International Children's Day on

family-oriented activity.

“GO GREEN TOGETHER”

On 25th - 26th May 2019, Archetype Thailand organized an outing
trip to promote team spirit.
In order to focus on environmental sustainability, CSR activities
were included: the concept of "Go Green Together” by
planting mangrove forest trees (at the Sirindhorn International
Environmental Park) and the participation in local community
activities (how to cultivate sugar palm tree, bake a toddy palm
cake, etc..). Our lucky colleagues enjoyed fresh sugar palm juice
at Lung Thanom Sugar Palm Plantation!

To keep the fun going, various teamwork competitions were then held at Khao Takiab Beach, Hua Hin. The power of
team unity, cooperation and leadership was in full display!

At night, a nice gala dinner was organized: vibrant music,

fun minigames and a “Sport Game” dress code that led to a
costume contest!
You could see a variety of sporty individuals: Football players,
Hikers, Boxers, an Indian Yoga Teacher, as well as a Long-tailed
Boat Racing Team! The prize for individual Male & Female
costume was won by the Indian Yoga Teacher and the Thai
boxer.
The Long-tailed Boat Racing Team won for the Team prize. Go,
Archetype Thailand!

SONGKRAN LUNCH PARTY 2019
Songkran is Thailand’s most famous festival and important event on the
Buddhist calendar. This water festival marks the beginning of the traditional
Thai New Year.
The name Songkran comes from a Sanskrit word meaning ‘passing’ or
‘approaching’.
To celebrate this
wonderful festival
and new year season,
Archetype Thailand
organized a warm
lunch party at our Silom
avenue office, on 11th
April. Xavier (Archetype

STRETCHING FOR BACK PAIN RELIEF

Keeping the following in mind can help effectively stretch the muscles without injury:
- Wear comfortable clothing that won’t bind or constrict movements
- Do not force the body into difficult or painful positions—stretching should be pain free
- Move into a stretch slowly and avoid bouncing, which can cause muscle strain
- Stretch on a clean, flat surface that is large enough to move freely
- Hold stretches long enough (15-30 seconds) to adequately lengthen muscles and improve range of motion
- Repeat a stretch between 2 and 5 times
- Stretch one side of the body at a time
