I started my internship in BIJNOR DISTRICT COURT on 21 MAY 2018.

I MEENAL CHANDRA, student of AMITY UNIVERSITY, NOIDA UTTAR PRADESH

studying BBA.LLB (H) Had underwent training under the supervision of MR. DEVENDRA
PAL SINGH, Advocate Bijnor District Court.

I started with a very brief and formal introduction; Sir told me that he practices in various fields
of law mainly civil, criminal, consumer protection laws, juvenile justice and family laws. He was
very impressed as I reached his residence cum home at 9:00 AM sharp. He also gave a short
introduction of his present staff members.

On the first day itself Mr.Singh told me about few basic things about the civil type of litigation.
He told me that a suit in which the right to property or to an office is contested is a suit of civil
nature. Thereafter to make me understand the format of plaint, written statement and order he
gave me an old file to dig into the matter and present him a summary of what I understood.
Meanwhile he was busy with his clients discussing for the coming case which was a civil suit of
property dispute in a family of 4 brothers.

On the second day of the training, Mr.Singh told me about the basic steps involved while
instituting a civil suit. On the particular date he was getting the plaint ready for instituting a fresh
suit, in which the relief asked was that of permanent injunction against the defendants. The plaint
was written in numbered paragraphs containing the material facts, cause of action, suit valuation,
court fees, prayer etc. according to the requirements of Order VII.

The next day, I was told about the stamps that are put on the plaint according to the valuation of
the suit, which is in reference to the court fees act. Mr.Singh asked me to go through the
provisions of Civil Procedure Code 1908 (Order VI, VII), Court Fees Act (Section-7
specifically) and Suit Valuation Act, so that I may understand the procedure of instituting the suit
better.
The next day, I accompanied Mr.Singh to the court of Civil Judge (Junior Division) where in the
fresh suit was to be filed. I queried from my trainer as to why we did not go to the Court of Civil
Judge (Senior Division) for the same, he told me that it all depends on the Court’s jurisdiction. If
the valuation of the suit is above 5 lacs, it would lie in the court of Civil Judge (Junior Division).

The next day I directly reached the advocate chamber of Sir situated in the premises of the court.
We were accompanied by other junior as well as senior advocate friends of sir and I got an
opportunity to talk to them and learn from the. We then proceeded to the court of Civil Judge
(junior division) Bijnor where Sir made lengthy arguments on application moved under Order 39
Rule 1 of CPC. The next date for hearing was given of 1st July 2018 and a notice was issued to
the defendant to submit his written statement by 25th June 2018.
