Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Cavite Extension

Traffic conditions in and around the Metro Manila have rapidly worsened particularly these past
years. The proposed south extension of the existing LRT line 1 known as the LRT Line 1 Extension Project
is a 12-kilometer light transit which Light Rail Transit (LRT) will undertake. It will utilize a technology that
is compatible with that of the existing LRT Line 1 and it's 100% capacity extension. After 19 years of
waiting, piling works for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 Cavite Extension have finally started over the
weekend. Following completion of ground investigation and foundation design works, the Light Rail
Manila Corp. (LRMC) has started piling works form Dr. Santos Station in Paranaque, where the right-of-
way (ROW) for the railway line has been cleared. Piling works involve the construction of supporting
piers that will serve as the foundation for the elevated railway structures. Phase 1 covers 7 kilometers of
the 11-kilometers LRT 1 Cavite Extension, including the Redemptorist Station, MIA station, Asiaworld
Station, Ninoy Aquino Station and Dr. Santos Station. Asiaworld Station will be located parallel to and
right beside the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and will eventually be connected to the Metro
Manila Subway, forming the Paranaque Common Station. These are stations where ROW is already free
and clear. Is Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 Cavite Extension considered as beneficial or non-beneficial? The
extension of Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite is seen to benefit passengers in terms of convenience and
comfort and this will bring a big impact to the Filipinos and also to the Philippine's problem in traffic by
as soon as the fourth quarter of 2021, as construction began on the project.

Opposing sides might say that the construction for the Cavite extension of Light Rail Transit
(LRT) Line 1 poses more downsides than its benefits. Possible contamination of groundwater due to
excavation of landfill areas, increase in exhaust gas emission level with the operation of construction
equipment, increase traffic congestion and changes in traffic patterns and many houses and businesses
will be disturb. These are some factors that contradicts the establishment of the LRT Line 1 Cavite. In
accordance with this, the government studied these problems that might contradict the LRT Line 1
Cavite. Water Quality Possible contamination of groundwater due to excavation of landfill areas.
Location of aquifer zones must be exhaustively studied before any excavation activity is started,
particularly in the landfill areas. Once established, excavation limits must be properly delineated and
strictly complied with. Excavated garbage from the said landfill areas must be immediately hauled out
and brought to DEN approved disposal sites. These garbage materials must be prohibited from being
stockpiled, to avoid contamination of nearby water bodies and possible spread of pathogenic organisms.
Regular maintenance of the construction heavy equipment and other smoke emitting machinery must
strictly complied with. The MMDA-approved Traffic Management Plan must be strictly implemented. To
further improve traffic flow, blockage of roads, particularly the heavy equipment and vehicles (such as
delivery and hauling trucks) must be minimized if not avoided. Transport of guide way beams must be
done during the nighttime when there are less vehicles on the road.

In line to this, Traffic cannot be resolve if the government has nothing to do and therefore
Philippines is not developing because the people always contradict the plans of the government.
Enhancement of passengers’ mobility and productivity. Improved students and worker's performance
can be expected through this improved transport system. Many Caviteños are studying and working at
Manila, if the LRT Line 1 is established many students will benefit from it because they will not
experience traffic that may lead them to stress. Shorter travel time and more comfortable travel
circumstances will allow people a better physical and psychological state to undertake productive work.
One major positive socioeconomic impact of this project is providing an efficient mass transit system
that enhances workforce mobility between the industrial zones. Lessen the traffic in the said areas (Long
term). Transportation vehicles like bus, jeepney, and taxi creates a big impact to the traffic that we are
experiencing. If the said LRT Line 1 is created, it will help in the traffic problems. The extension line,
consisting of ten (10) passenger station, three (3) intermodal facilities at Dr. Santos, l Zapote, and Niog
Stations, and a satellite depot in Bacoor, Cavite, will serve the southern area of Metro Manila and the
northeast corner of the Province of Cavite. The project creates the benefit by way of accommodating
expanding ridership between various parts of Metro Manila and Cavite. If more passengers are
encouraged to take the LRT, other public utility vehicles like jeeps, mega-taxis and buses plying the
narrow Bacoor streets can be reduced. Decline in emission rates and concentrations of air pollutants
involve the design of transportation project because it also affects how and where air quality impacts
occur and the design of buildings and facilities near the main roads of the project area. Air pollution here
in the Philippines are worst. It can be lessened if the buses and jeepneys will be lessen too. According to
a study, almost 30% of air pollution if from vehicles. If the LRT Line 1 is established the smokes from
buses and jeepneys will largely decrease specially in the designated project area. Studies of similar
transit system indicate that the overall impact of an introduction of an LRT System would be a decline in
emission rated and concentration of vehicular pollutants such as hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide
(CO), NO2, PM10, and lead.

Extension of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 from Bacoor to Damarinas in Cavite has been
proposed. While there are some downsides, the benefits of extending Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite
outweigh the alternatives. Not only does Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 Cavite Extension provides the
convenience and comfort of the passengers, but it seems perfect in order to raise up the economy that
must have developed in the country. The group also have a strong argument that effectively proved that
extension of Light Rail Transit (LRT) can surely help the passengers including the students and workers to
solve the problem in traffic and to lessen the air pollution. The future problems are answered correctly
and with evidences but there is a long term process, but can still be solved.
