Words to Hymns God is working His purpose out
O God you search me and you know me
God is working His purpose out As year succeeds to year;
O God, you search me and you know me. God is working his purpose out, And the time is drawing near;
All my thoughts lie open to your gaze. Nearer and nearer draws the time, The time that shall surely be,
When I walk or lie down you are before me: When the earth shall be filled With the glory of God
ever the maker and keeper of my days. Verse
As the waters cover the sea.
You know my resting and my rising. What can we do to work God’s work, To prosper and increase
You discern my purpose from afar, The brotherhood of all mankind, The reign of the Prince of Peace?
and with love everlasting you besiege me: What can we do to hasten the time,The time that shall surely be,
in every moment of life or death, you are.
When the earth shall be filled With the glory of God
As the waters cover the sea.
Before a word is on my tongue, Lord,
you have known its meaning through and through. March we forth in the strength of God, With the banner of Christ unfurled,
You are with me beyond my understanding: That the light of the glorious Gospel of truth May shine throughout the world;
God of my present, my past and future, too. Fight we the fight with sorrow and sin To set their captives free,
That the earth may be filled With the glory of God
Although your Spirit is upon me,
As the waters cover the sea.
still I search for shelter from your light.
There is nowhere on earth I can escape you: All we can do is nothing worth Unless God blesses the deed;
even the darkness is radiant in your sight. Vainly we hope for the harvest-tide Till God gives life to the seed;
Yet near and nearer draws the time, The time that shall surely be,
For you created me and shaped me,
When the earth shall be filled With the glory of God
gave me life within my mother's womb.
For the wonder of who I am, I praise you: As the waters cover the sea.
safe in your hands, all creation is made new.
