PRE-START VERIFICATIONS
The pre-start verification allows you to identify if any components present anomalies. The
identification and resolution of these anomalies will allow you to manufacture a quality
product for many years to come.

FAO speed
The speed of the FAO can be adjusted. The FAO transfer chain must be 5 to 10
f/min (1.5 to 3 m/min) faster than the main chain of the finger jointer in order to clear the
way for the jointer lugs to return. The flow control is located behind the front door of the
FAO. Every time you change the speed of the finger jointer, it is really important to change
the speed of the FAO.

OPERATION PARAMETERS
In this chapter, we will see the operation parameters that you will have to adjust
according to the product thickness and width. Each time you change one of these two
variables, you will have to adjust one or many operation parameters.
Press height
Press height must be adjusted in order to maintain the product when it comes out of
the finger jointer. The product must be well maintained until it is feed into the tunnel
3- Using crank (B), lower press until it slightly touches the product.
4- Remove product and lower press 1/16” to 3/32” (1.6mm to 2.4mm) more.
Feeder height
Feeder height must be adjusted in order to feed the product into the tunnel.
2- Using a piece of the product, simulate the arrival of the product under the feeder belt to
see where it will touch the feeder belt.
3- Using crank (B), lower press. The feeder belt should slightly touch the product when
the cylinder (C) is completely out.
Photocell adjustment
The purpose of this photocell is to send a signal to lower the cylinder. The cylinder
must lower when the product is at 1/8” (3.2mm) from the fence. Respecting this
adjustment will prevent the product pieces from bouncing off the fence.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
5
WARNING!
To avoid injury and physical damage, disconnect power from FAO and associated
units before undertaking any repairs.
Problems Solutions
The finger jointer and the SAI will stop and have to be restarted if the FAO full alarm
occurs. This alarm is caused by a pieces staying for a longer period of time than usual
under the photocell located at the corner of the FAO. This can be caused by an
accumulation of product with no normal spacing between them. The photocell will detect
them as an only piece and will conclude to a jammed piece. A jammed piece at the corner
of the FAO will also cause this alarm.
There are two possible causes for the pieces to jam or accumulate in the corner of
the FAO: a piece is turned, flipped, broken, wedged or the tunnel is full. To restart, simply
take out pieces that caused the stop. If there are just two or three pieces accumulated on
the FAO chains, you should not have to recreate the spacing between the pieces.
However, if there are more than three wood pieces with no spacing, it might be necessary
to recreate the spacing between the pieces.
If the alarm occurs because the MT tunnel is full, the alarm should disappear when
the product starts to move in the tunnel. The tunnel can be full if the capacity of the press,
in terms of linear feet per minute, is exceeded or if there is an alarm causing the press or
tunnel to stop. If so, another alarm light will turn on simultaneously with the FAO full light
on the press-tunnel control panel. This will be the real alarm that causes the stop.
There are two photocells that detect the product in the FAO press (one on each
side of the press). If for any reason, the two photocells do not read the product
simultaneously, the machine stops and this light turns on. This alarm is caused by a piece
that did not transfer correctly from the finger jointer to the FAO.
There are four concave wheels located at the end of the finger jointer that force the
pieces to move on a diagonal pattern. These wheels position the product pieces in the
proper position to be held by the FAO press. The proper position is when the end of the
product sticks out a minimum length of 1/2" (12.7 mm) from the rear of the press, to allow
glued joint to be away from the press belts.
This alarm is usually caused by product being too thin which were not able to be
transferred by the four wheels. These pieces must be removed. If the pieces seem to
transfer correctly, maybe the photocells need to be readjusted. If the pieces are of normal
thickness and the transfer seems to be weak, you may need to adjust the height of the
wheel support or to replace the wheels.

MAINTENANCE
WARNING!
To avoid injury and physical damage, disconnect power from the machine and
associated units before undertaking any repairs.
General Maintenance
In order to keep this machine clean, it should be dusted off with compressed air everyday.
This procedure is especially important to maintain the efficiency of all mechanical
components.

WARRANTY POLICY
Our machines and their components are thoroughly inspected at all stages of
production and every machine has been assembled and checked before shipping, as to
prevent any defects in workmanship or material.
This warranty does not apply to the repair or replacement of parts that failed as a
result of abuse and/or misuse. In addition to Doucet machineries Inc. warranty a large
number of off the shelf components such as electronic, electric, hydraulic and pneumatic
components are covered under their respective manufacturer’s product warranty. In most
instances you may obtain locally and receive on the spot replacement from a service
depot located in your area. In the absence of local service Doucet machineries Inc. will
provide replacement on an exchange basis and file the claim under the said
manufacturer’s warranty. Doucet reserves the right to decline liability in case of repairs
and replacement parts purchased by customers without prior consent.
The foregoing shall constitute the fulfillment of our obligations under this warranty
and there are no other warranties or guarantees, expressed or implied, except as stated
herein.
