START OF THE
REMODELING
THE SANTIAGO BERNABEU STADIUM
The road to get here has been long and difficult.
We started working on the remodeling project in
2009, and since then we have been constantly
pushing for its implementation, overcoming
every challenge: specific modification to the
General Urban Management Plan in 2011, call
for International Architecture Tender in 2012,
presentation of the winning proposal by GMP
ARCHITEKTEN/ L-35 / RIBAS in 2014 and
subsequent drafting of the Draft and Preliminary
Project, annullment of the modification of the
General Plan by the Superior Court of Justice of
Madrid in 2015, approval of the Special Urban
Management Plan of the stadium in 2017, and
of the redivision of land plan and sustainable
mobility plan in 2018, and in parallel the
adjusting of the architectural project to the
new urban planning parameters.

During the 2018/19 season all the necessary

actions have been completed to be able to start
one of the great projects for the future of Real
Madrid: a new stadium, more accessible, safer
and more comfortable for all, an architectural
and technological benchmark, in addition to
a new and important source of revenue for the
club. In short, a great avant-garde and universal
icon, the great stadium of the 21st century, the
pride of Real Madrid and the city of Madrid.

The surroundings of the stadium will also be transformed;

one of the changes will be this new private square for
public use on the corner of Padre Damián street.

Obtaining the building permit

In accordance with the new urban management

plan resulting from the Special Plan for the
improvement of the urban environment and
detailed urban plan of the Santiago Bernabéu
stadium and the architectural project presented
by Real Madrid, the urban planning license
was obtained on 27 March 2019 for modifying
the football stadium’s activity for the works of
expansion, consolidation, specific fitting out,
partial restructuring and exterior works of the
Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

This urban planning licence, together with the

initial one of 24 June 2017, and after the payment
of the fees and the provisional settlement of the
ICIO, grants the necessary urban coverage for
the execution of all the remodeling works of the
Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

With the obtaining of the building work and

activity permit, the administrative process that
has enabled the start of the remodeling works
has been completed.

On 2 April, the club presented the

Santiago Bernabéu remodeling project
in the stadium’s presidential box. Group photo with the attending authorities.
