Introduction
Introduce topic Child Abuse in Pennsylvania
Credibility I am interested in this topic and have done some
excessive reading on Child Abuse in the form of
secondary sources such as articles, journals
Background of topic Research estimates 1 in 4 children will
experience some type of child abuse during their
lifetime. Ignoring children’s needs, putting them in
unsupervised, dangerous situations, exposing
them to sexual situations, or making them feel
worthless are forms of child abuse.
Central Idea The types of child abuse
Body

Description of data 1. The graph shows the reports of child
abuse in Pennsylvania from 2012 to 2016
2. There is a slight increase of child abuse
reported from the year 2012 to 2014.
3. Besides, there is an obvious raise of
report on child abuse in the year 2014 to
2016.

Analysis of data 4. The year 2016 had the most child abuse
reported which is 44,359 and the lowest
report of child abuse is in the year 2012

 which is 26,352.
5. It was found that reports of child abuse
were 1.7 per thousand children in 2016
compared to 1.6 per thousand in 2015.
However, the total reports of child abuse
were 13.3 per thousand children in 2016
in contrast to 15.4 in per thousand in
2015.
Description of data 1. This pie chart shows the type of child
abuse that a child may suffer.
2. There are 6 different types of child abuse
3. There are neglect, physical abuse, sexual
abuse, psychological maltreatment,
medical neglect and others.

Analysis of data 4. The highest type of child abuse is neglect

which has the percentage of 78.3% and
medical neglect has the lowest
percentage which is 2.4%.
5. According to The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) which
classify that the types of child abuse as
physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional
abuse, or neglect. Neglect happens when
the parents have several parenting
problems including mental disorders,
substance abuse, domestic violence,
unemployment, unplanned pregnancy.
Conclusion
Conclusion Based on the graph, it shows that child abuse
increases over time and there are five types of
abuse which are negligence, physical abuse,
sexual abuse, physiological maltreatment and
medical neglect. Cases of child abuse are still

 dramatically increasing in the U.S. There are
many challenges to end the abuse.
Recommendation It is recommended that more comprehensive and
reliable information about the incidence and
prevalence of child abuse are needed. Prevention
programs should be held to spread awareness,
identifying and treating sexual abuse victims in
order to prevent the abuse to the children.
