EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This paper aims to strengthen the social enterprise, Rifroos Macrame, owned by Rutchie
Roble and Lucero Roble. Along with JPIC, the social problems that we are trying to help solve
include unemployment and poverty . About 1.4 billion people around the world are living just
below the poverty line and Inquirer once dubbed Cebu as the Poverty Capital of the Philippines.
Due to JPIC trying to solve these problems, they are promoting the majority of the Sustainable
Development Goals such as No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good- Health and Well-Being, Quality
Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry Innovation and
Infrastructure, Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Communities, and most importantly, Peace,
Justice and Strong Institutions. The Rifroos Macrame, a beneficiary of JPIC-Dumlog, has also
promoted some of the Sustainable Development Goals that JPIC-Dumlog is targeting. These
Sustainable Development Goals include No Poverty and Decent Work and Economic Growth.
The paper proposes two strategies that can potentially help improve the overall social
impact of Rifroos Macrame. The first proposal would be for Rifroos Macrame to make the most
out of contemporary technology to widen its reach. The second proposal would be for a
livelihood training program that helps people gain jobs while also helping the company procure
more supplies. Both proposals targets significant improvement for the overall social impact of
Rifroos Macrame.
Rifroos Macrame creates ladies’ bags, backpacks, sling bags, pouches, coin purses, wrist
bands, and belts with different sizes, colors, and designs through the art and process of
Macramé. Their neighbors also started to be involved in making Macrame products allowing
them to earn income. Which then leads to their social impact, giving employment to the less
fortunate ones. With the use of the employment model, its target population will be employed in
the social enterprise. The key partners of Macrame includes donors and sponsors for their
projects and raw material suppliers for their handmade Macrame products. The key activities of
the enterprise are Showcases (to attract donors and sponsors), Project Creation/Construction
and Product production. Key resources that are used in the business process of Macrame
products include heavy to light equipment, labor, and product design costs. Included in the
production are variable costs of supplies and marketing materials, and fixed costs in equipment.
Their products give a unique value as every purchase of the product creates a social impact that
V
could help other JPIC beneficiaries. The purchase of product to customer is through direct
selling and through stalls.
The Macrame’s revenue comes from the selling of its products. There are already a
number of businesses, big or small, that are selling Macrame supplies (cotton rope, strings,
cords, etc.) or finished products. There are brands both locally and internationally that have
already made a name in the Macrame industry. These various competitors serve as a challenge
to the enterprise in San Pio. Through this study, figuring out a way to let the enterprise earn
enough for the families working in it despite the number of competitors is the top priority.
