Course Name RES 101 – METHODS OF RESEARCH
Course Credits 3 units
Course Description This course introduces the students to quantitative and qualitative methods for conducting meaningful inquiry and
research. It includes an overview of research intent and design, methodology and technique, format and presentation, and
data management and analysis through commonly used statistical methods.

Course Objectives At the end of the term, the learners should have developed the following competencies:
1. Define the basic concepts in research
2. Trace the development of scientific thought
3. Illustrate using a Conceptual map that establishes the logical relations among these basic research concepts
4. Compare and contrast: types of research designs, reliability and validity, types of sampling techniques
5. Formulate a research title, SOPs, objectives of the SOPs, research design and sampling method
6. Compare and contrast the different data collection methods in research
7. Distinguish quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods approaches to research
8. Apply the appropirate data analysis to a specific chosen research topic
9. Apply ethical principles of research, ethical challenges and approval processes
10. Prepare a research proposal
