REFLECTION PAPER

As a Filipino one of my desires is to encourage my fellow Filipinos to help

themselves because each one of us are like little pieces of a puzzle, a puzzle as a symbol for our
country and if each little pieces will come and help each other to complete a whole piece then it’s
for the best for our country that all Filipinos are eager to work individually and also together with
the rest of the Filipinos.
Encouraging other Filipinos to help themselves is one of the main purpose of
the revolution of the Katipunan because during the time of heavy conflict in our country Filipinos
of different backgrounds united with a common goal: to resist colonialism. The revolution against
Spain was sparked in 1896 after Spanish authorities discovered the “Katipunan,” a Filipino
revolutionary society plotting against their colonizers. I can say that the relevance of the
Katipunan revolution is timeless because I know most of the Filipinos in the present time are still
willing to help their fellow Filipinos specially the ones who are unfortunate in life just like
the aims and structure of the katipunan. Andres Bonifacio laid down three primary objectives of
the Katipunan: civic, political, and moral. Civic – was based on the principle of self-help and the
defense of the weak and the poor. The importance of it is that it still teaches lessons to us Filipinos
even up to this day that if the majority will help each other for the welfare of our own country then
nothing is impossible as long as you as a Filipino have the fire within you in helping your fellow
Filipinos, even if there are people who acts like they are superior compared to us just like the
colonizers of the Philippines from the past.
I’m for reform because in my own perceptions and also based on my personality,
as long as there are still options in solving a problem whether it’s personal or about political if I
think there are still a choice in changing some areas of the politics then clearly I would choose
reform than revolution because I’m the type of person who is not afraid of trial and errors as long
as I’m finding ways and solutions to solve and do my tasks or problems. But still there’s a
possibility in choosing revolution because if it’s the only thing that’s left for our country and it will
bring good to our country and the majority then that’s the only time I’ll be into revolution.
Given the political context of our country I think there’s no need for revolution as of
now because compared to the past years under some people who’d lead our country before, our
country are slowly making it’s progress with the current leader and as I’ve said I’m the type of
person to give a situation or a person a chance if there’s still lot of options in improving something
so I think our country are in good hands and the majority should not be too demanding because
we’re not fully aware of how the politicians do their work and we’re not in their shoes and we don’t
know how hard it is to run a country so instead of blaming the people with positions in our country
let’s just try to be more productive individually if we really want good things to happen in our
country.
