I. Subject: MAPEH 8 (arts)


Topic: East Asian arts
Sub topic: Japanese Ukiyo-e (Face Painting in Japan)
Materials: TV monitor, Laptop, Pictures, Cartolina, Pentel Pen
References: Music and Arts of Asia (Grade 8), page. 252-257

III. Content Standards:
The learner salient the features of the arts of East Asia by showing the
relationship of the elements of art and processes among culturally diverse
communities in the region

IV. Performance Standards:


The learner create artworks showing the characteristic elements of the arts
of East Asia

V. Competency Standards:

The learner identifies the characteristics of arts and crafts in specific


countries in East Asia: China (Chinese painting and calligraphy); Japan
(origami, woodblock printing, theater masks, face painting, and anime and
manga); and Korea (theater masks, drums, and K-pop)

VI. Objectives:
 Identify distinct characteristics of music in East Asia in relation to the
history.
 Play/improvise simple melodic and rhythmic accompaniments to
Japanese music.
 Appreciate the importance of music in Japanese culture.

Activity:

Directions: the teacher will show a video performance in festival , theater in East Asia.

Guide questions:

 What did you observe on the video?


 How do these musical presentation show aspects on east Asian culture?

 Now, What have you noticed of their costumes ?

 What costumes they used that you are familiar ?


 How can you describe their Mask ?

Analysis:

1. Before we proceed to our discussion. I have prepare some


examples of face picture or image. (Teacher will show the picture
)

Application:

Activity 1: Face painting

I will group you into six(6) group. Each group will be given a color.

Group1 - (Red )
Group2 - (Yellow)
Group3 - (Green)
Group4 - (Black)
Group5 - (Purple)
Group6 – (White)

And each group will classify the meaning of each color and most of all is the face painting of
each color will be given to you. Group 1, What is the meaning of the color and the face painting
?

(Teacher will show the picture of Guan Ju)

Group 2, What is the meaning of the color and the face painting ?

(Teacher will show the picture of Huang Pang)

Group 3, What is the meaning of the color and the face painting ?
(Teacher will show the picture of Zhu Wen)

Group 4 , What is the meaning of the color and the face painting ?
(Teacher will show the picture of Zhang Fei)

Group 5 , What is the meaning of the color and the face painting ?
(Teacher will show the picture of Lian Po)

Group 6 , What is the meaning of the color and the face painting ?
(Teacher will show the picture of Cao Cao)
Abstraction.

Based on the presentation of Japanese culture, do you think that color is


in line or one of their inspiration in performing such activities? How do you say
