2.3 Vibration
Since vibration has an adverse affect on the :Avanxis IV’s output quality,
take the recommended precautions in the following situations.
• If trains, trucks, or other large vehicles frequently pass near the
:Avanxis IV, perform the necessary vibration tests to check whether
the vibrations are above normal levels.
• If an air conditioner, printing machine, proof press, compressor, or
other vibration source is located near the :Avanxis IV, shock waves or
resonance may damage it. If this is the case, contact your local Agfa
service organization for assistance with countermeasures to stop the
vibrations.
• The installation standard of the :Avanxis IV is below 0.05 m/s2 (5.0
Gal) in both the vertical and horizontal directions (between 0 to 60 Hz).
:Avanxis IV should not be placed directly in the path of the air output
from an air conditioner.
• Keep the atmospheric pressure in the :Avanxis IV room slightly higher
than that of adjacent rooms. Continuous introduction of outside air
will optimize the :Avanxis IV’s performance.
Fig. 2-2
If you cannot find an applicable power cable, contact your local Agfa
service organization.
■ Grounding
WARNING
To prevent electrical shocks, have an authorized electrician
verify that the ground terminal on the AC power outlet is
grounded in accordance with all local laws and regulations.
■ Voltage fluctuations
The :Avanxis IV can run satisfactorily with line voltage fluctuations of up
to ±10% of the rated voltage. You should install a voltage stabilizer if
power at your facility is prone to fluctuations beyond this range. This
specification only refers to gradual voltage fluctuations, and does not
include voltage spikes and surges. For this reason, do not connect the
:Avanxis IV to the same circuit utilized by machinery subject to sudden
changes in operating loads. Wherever possible, the :Avanxis IV should
be connected to its own independent power circuit.
■ Voltage drops
Always use a properly rated power cable so that voltage drops do not
occur during startup or steady-state currents. To prevent possible
electrical damage to the :Avanxis IV, use appropriately rated fuses, circuit
breakers, and switches.
Make sure all components are selected and installed by an electrical
service company or a qualified electrician.
3. Cable connection

6. Exposure
The machine has two exposure modes: remote exposure which performs
exposure using data from the host computer, and local exposure which
performs light intensity controlled exposure.
While exposure is in progress, “Recording ***%” is displayed on the
panel display. “***%” indicates the progress of the exposure as a
percentage.
■ Remote exposure
After entering remote mode (the ON LINE lamp on the operation panel
lights), give the exposure command from the host computer.
■ Local exposure
After entering local mode (the ON LINE lamp on the operation panel
does not light), give the exposure command from the operation panel.
Local exposures include light intensity controlled exposures and exposure
of unexposed data in the hard disk drive.
Information on errors that occur during local exposure will not be sent to
the host computer.
7. Image buffer
The :Avanxis IV is equipped with two internal image buffer so it can
execute exposure even when the data transmission speed from the host is
slower than the exposure speed. Image data is only exposed after it is
transmitted to the image buffer.
■ Exposure operation
The :Avanxis IV starts an exposure operation after all the data for one
image has been transmitted to one image buffer. Data for the next image
can be transmitted to the image buffer when the image capacity is smaller
than the free space in the image buffer.

Type of media
Type of media
Enter the character and number indicated in the “Display” column of the
table below from the keyboard to set the type of media. The host
computer receives data concerning media using these indications.
Media type is determined by the magazine ID code. Exposure light
intensity is determined by the media type. Through these indications, the
best exposure is achieved.
Media size
Depending on the :Avanxis IV model and type of media, the media size is
set in inches or millimeters. When the media is polyester base film or
printing paper, select the number by pressing the select key until the
desired number appears. For the flexible plate, enter the size from the
keyboard. The size must be set correctly since the host computer receives
data concerning media and the :Avanxis IV performs the exposure
operation in accordance with this setting. If the wrong size is set, the
quality of the results may not be satisfying.
The media size is determined by the dedicated magazine ID code. Media
is available in the sizes shown in the table below.

Enter the data for the remaining length of the media from 0 to 61 m in
increments of 1 m from the keyboard when new media is mounted. The
initial set value on the :Avanxis IV is 0 m.
The displayed value is the preset value entered by the operator minus the
media fed length. However, the remaining length may not reflect the
actual length. Use this value as a reference only.
Since the standard media is not attached to the winding core, media may
not be able to be rewound even if the REMOVE command or SET
command is executed. For this reason, the media may not be able to be
used up.
The remaining length of the media is controlled using the dedicated

Note • When the cut line is not exposed, the commands for cut line
distance and cut line width do not function.
• The setting designated through the host computer has priority
in the remote mode.
A line will be exposed as a cut line after the image data has been
completely exposed.
CUTLSPC 10mm
This command is used to set the distance from the end of the image (the
position where the tail punch area ends when the tail punch is made or
where the trailing burning-out ends when the burning-out exposure is
performed) to the cut line from 1 to 50 mm in increments of 1 mm. The
value is entered from the keyboard.
Note The setting designated through the host computer has priority
in the remote mode.
CUTL-WIDTH 0.1mm
This command is used to set the width of the cut line (in secondary
scanning direction) from 0.1 to 3.0 mm in increments of 0.1 mm. The
value is entered from the keyboard.
It is impossible to set the cut line width from the host computer. The cut
line is exposed at maximum width in the primary scanning direction (550
mm) regardless of the selected media width. In the case of wide-sized
media, the cut line may not be exposed at full width.
