As you have probably heard by now, this month we have some exciting

As we approach this sermon series and movie event, I pray that we will all take seriously the challenge to INVITE.
If we are a church that seeks to be a Christian community where Christ is transforming lives, then it is up to
every single one of us to seek out and invite lost people in our community to come and experience the saving
message of Jesus and the radical love and hospitality of His people (us!). If we are to be a place where we love
Christ and share his love, then our mindset should be that every Sunday is a “Bring a Friend to Church
Sunday.”
We know that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a message that will move people from a destiny of death, to a destiny
of LIFE in the Kingdom of God. Let’s put the invitation out there, that ALL are welcome in the house of God, and
pray that God will work a miracle of transformation in all our lives, as we come together to worship Him. I am so
excited to see the ways God will work through these events—and how YOU can be part of God’s plan to bring the
message of Christ to folks in our community!

Children’s Ministry Sunday Reflection

On Sunday, September 29th, the children of ESUMC
taught the congregation all that they have learned
recently in children’s church, JUMP, and in the
preschool nursery. The 8:30am service was treated
to a father-daughter duet sung by MaKenna and
Doug Malefyt, and in both services the congregation
enjoyed joining their voices with the kids as they
sang VBS songs, and a “Fruit of the Spirit is Not a
Coconut” song with dancing fruit. Erica Dorsch,
Director of Children and Family Ministries, preached
on how our children’s ministry is not only growing in
numbers, but also “growing in faith” and how we all
can nourish that growth in our own lives. Numerous
children spoke on all 9 Fruits of the Spirit, as well as
God’s promises and the lineage of Abraham, Isaac
and Jacob. The congregation was entertained by a
Fruit of the Spirit March, a video showcasing the
“Moving Up Ceremony” of the children who were
recently promoted, and an adorable video featuring
our babies, toddlers and preschoolers in the nursery
and enjoying their activities and lessons. In addition,
the many volunteers and nursery staff who serve in
the children’s ministry were recognized. ESUMC is
truly “growing in faith” and the children’s ministry

This notification to Staff will be especially important
considering the recent changes made for our Hospital
Visitation Team at Lehigh Valley Hospital—Pocono.
Unfortunately, our team will no longer have access to
the daily clergy book at either LVH-P or at St. Luke’s,
so we will need your assistance to keep our team
informed!!! Thank you for helping us care for our
church family! We appreciate your efforts to help us
stay connected with our Hospitalized members!
On Sunday, November 24th, ESUMC will host the
annual charge conference. In previous years, the
District Superintendent would visit each church on the
district for individual charge conferences, but in recent
years, this has changed due to the size of each
district expanding to include as many as 110
churches. Our Superintendent, Steve Morton, is
leading 7 group charge conferences this fall, and ours
is the final one of the season. We will be joined by
about 9 other churches on November 24th, with the
charge conference commencing at 1:00PM in our
Sanctuary and ending by 3:00PM. DS Morton uses
this time as a way to inspire and teach our churches,
and last year, those who attended at Faith UMC in
Stroudsburg, did indeed come away inspired! Steve
will be focusing on the seven churches in the Book of
Revelation in this year’s charge conference, and how
the challenges of those seven churches impact the
modern church. Important voting on issues related to
charge conference will take place at our Steering
Team meeting on November 11th, and this serves as
a reminder that anyone from the congregation can

Beginning Sunday, November 24th, you will have the
opportunity to join together in prayer with your church
family, and pray for our church staff and leaders, our
ministries, and the mission projects we support. We’ll
also seek the Holy Spirit’s leading regarding His
vision and will for ESUMC, and pray for the future of
our United Methodist denomination.
Eleven members of our church’s Steering Team have
volunteered to alternate leading this informal time of
prayer, held every Sunday from 9:50-10:30AM in the
Youth Room (located in the church basement).
Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend!

What Is GriefShare?
ESUMC is pleased to announce a second round
GriefShare seminars to be offered on Thursday
evenings from 6:30-8:00PM, January 9th–April 2nd,
2020.
GriefShare is a weekly support group for those who
have experienced the death of a loved one. This
program is designed to help those who are hurting
understand their grief and rebuild their life in the midst
of the challenges they are facing.
The program runs in 13 weeks cycles, and includes
video seminars, group discussion, and a personal
workbook. If you, or someone you know, is interested
in GriefShare, please contact our facilitators: Ginny
Levanowitz at (570) 992-7290, or Dick & Mary Jane
Lord at (570) 421-1188. As always, thank you for
helping us promote and share this vital ministry with
those that grieving.
