Weekly Journal

Regular evaluation updates are required with every unit. Please remember
to take photos and get behind the scenes footage as you film. You might
find it easier if you note down a record of what you did each day in a diary
form.

Please use the following guidance to help you with each week.

Week 1 This week you worked on your idea generation and

topic research
What have you been asked to We have been asked to create several productions
do? on one topic, the topic must capture the attention
of Generation Z (ages of 14 -24). The topic is based
on British Youth.
What are you making your 3 As a group we talked about three main topics,
production on and why have you we tried to vary our fashion topic so that it was
chosen this topic?
targeting lots of different people and lots of
different views. Through these topics we also
covered Gender Identity:
 Gender Stereotyping
 Genderless Fashion
 Gender Fluidity in Fashion
We also discussed slightly the different groups
people are associated to when they wear
specific clothes for example if you wear black
clothing with black makeup you are called a
goth.

What research have you I’ve looked at many different websites, but the main
completed this week and what ones I used I gathered lots of information on certain
have you learned? bits of my topic. On one Jeanne Maglaty talks about
how pink and blue arrived as colours for babies
clothing in the 19th century. The two colours were
not presented as gender signifiers until just before
World War I. I also looked another website talking
about why the male gender still don’t wear dresses.
Something that Komar talks about is that women
have a lot more acceptance when wearing
trousers/slacks, and the reason for this is that we
have created a power balance which doesn't make
skirts and trousers equivalent
Are you on track for this week? If I have got most of it done I just need to add a
not, how far behind are you? couple of things to my website regarding the mind
maps and also just adding some more information
to my research Stuff.
What work do you need to Just add a few things to my website so
complete outside of lessons to there is just an added bit of extra
stay on track? information.
Week 2 This week you worked on your factual programme

What research have you We have collected a fair amount of research on our
completed this week and what topic, and have found an expert to Starr in our
have you learned? factual programme. We have also learnt different
ways in which you shoot a factual programme, for
example the position the cameras should be in, and
where the interviewee should be placed in the
frame.
How have you divided your We used a thing called a crew list to help divide
planning amongst your group? various jobs to different people, so it meant we can
all get things done and ready smoothly.
What did you learn from your From planning things it meant that we could get a
planning? How has it helped you rough idea of how the factual programme will look
to progress your idea? and how we should set the whole thing out. Also
planning has made our group idea become more
realistic than what some of us have planned in our
heads.
Are you on track for this week? If We are mainly on track we just need to make sure
not, how far behind are you? we get all the filming done and correct so that there
are no problems when it comes to editing.
What work do you need to The main thing we need to do is the filming but that
complete outside of lessons to is roughly it for now.
stay on track?
Week 3 This week you worked on your production

How helpful did you find your The planning was not used as much as we wanted
planning whilst out shooting to, but we used the script which we planned out
your factual programme? that the presenters used throughout the
programme.
What interviews did you set up The first interview we did we were slightly
and how do you feel they have unprepared so it meant when we reviewed our
added to your production? footage we could tell that it was rushed. This meant
we had to do a second interview which we did much
better we also had the help from some friends to
help us make sure the cameras where all set up
correctly.
What issues did you have when At the start of the week there were four of us but it
filming your production? How did dropped down to three, it created a huge set back
you overcome them? as we were supposed to film on the Monday, so it
meant we only had one camera to do our interview,
this didn’t help massively because it caused us to
be behind with our filming meaning less time for us
to edit. We all picked each other up and sorted
things out quickly. We had lots of friends making
sure we were ok and they were also helping make
sure our second interview was more perfect than
the last.
How do you feel you are working As a group we all worked together well, as well as
as a group? What were your having a laugh at the same time. We all work
roles and responsibilities? extremely hard to get things done and we can rely
on each other to make sure we are there when
needed. Everyone’s work ethic is perfect and I
couldn’t ask for more.
How much work did you As a group we completed quite a lot of work as
complete outside of the lessons? most of our filming we did in our free
time. This allowed us to get more work
done during our lessons. Most of the
planning we did too was done away from lesson
time, for example the script was done during the
half-term so that everyone could review.
Are you on track for this week? If I am on track I have got everything uploaded and
not, how far behind are you? ready.
What work do you need to Nothing that I am aware of!
complete outside of lessons to
stay on track?
