2020 Sponsorship Prospectus
ANU Computer Science Student Association

What is the CSSA?

Who We Are

The ANU Computer Science Students’ Association (CSSA) is the major student-led
organization on campus that caters to the needs of IT, Computer Science and Software
Engineering students at The Australian National University. Membership is open to all
current students.

The CSSA was founded in 1994, but membership declined for several years until a
major relaunch in 2011. Now, with booming membership rates and more than 400
members, the CSSA has become one of the most active faculty-related societies on
the ANU campus.

The CSSA is affiliated with the ANU Students’ Association (ANUSA), and won the 2012
ANUSA Award for Event of the Year and Runner-Up Large Club of the Year.

What We Do

We cultivate and uphold a vibrant community among ANU computing students. Each
year, a wide range of social, academic and professional opportunities are brought to
ANU students through our organization.

Our calendar includes a wide range of social events (Trivia and video game nights,
barbeques, etc.), technical events (Technical workshops & Study events), and
career-related events (Annual Careers Fair & Company presentations/talks).

In addition to weekly events, we publish a newsletter to update students on
tech-related events, competitions and career opportunities.

In 2012 we established a student common room within the CSIT building that has
become a popular social hub for computing students. The common room has just
finished a major renovation and will include an industry section with advertisements,
promotional material and merchandise.

How Sponsorship Will Benefit You

Recruitment

As a large student association with a lively club room, the CSSA is a forum for some of
the brightest and most passionate computer science students at the ANU. Our society
develops the academic and professional skills of our members through extracurricular
workshops and events (e.g. LaTeX workshop; study events) and enriches their social
experience, e.g. via the semiannual Epic Game Night.

Brand Presence

By advertising through us, hundreds of students will become more familiar with your
name and brand image. This leads to more students and graduates applying to
opportunities offered by your business, increasing the likelihood of you finding your
perfect candidate.

Even if the brand is already established, these advertisements will further boost and
uphold your reputation within the university as well as creating a more personal
relationship between you and the students.

We’d love to work with your business to create a

prosperous, professional relationship.

Marketing Options
Careers Fair

Tentative date: 12:00-14:00 14th March

A STEM careers fair is held annually at ANU, as a conjunction between the Engineering
Students Association, Computer Science Student Association and the Mathematics
Society. This is a prime opportunity to showcase your brand and attract the best
among future graduates to your company.

Catered stall space for up to three people.
Company blurb included in promotional brochure & e-booklet.
Promotional materials distributed to students through career fair show bags.

Barbecues

We run several Barbeques during each semester, typically catering to around 70 – 100
students. This provides a social environment for our members to meet new people and
enjoy the campus. We offer delicious sausages, vegetarian patties and hash browns.

These barbeques present a unique opportunity to network with students in a relaxed,
informal setting.

Own marketing material may be distributed at the event.

Tech Talks

Each semester, we organize multiple industry-run technical workshops. Unique to every
firm, topics have touched on Microsoft Kinect development, the Haskell programming
language, and postgraduate career opportunities. We provide pizza and non-alcoholic
beverages during these events.

Own marketing material may be distributed at the event.
Women in Tech

The "Women in Tech" program is a series of events running throughout the year.
Although open to all students, this program targets low enrolment and retention rates in
female students. Events include:

- Careers Q&A Panel featuring successful women in both the industry and
academia.
- An educational "Get Together & Code" morning, with catered brunch. Later-year
female students provide important advice and guidance to younger students.
- Social potluck and Computer Science movie night.

The success of these events would be greatly assisted by external sponsorship. Your
support will be mentioned in all promotional material. Also, if you wish to host an event
or join these students, we would be happy to discuss this further.

Student Workshops

We also run a series of events which primarily focus on giving students tools and
knowledge that will be directly used in their university degree. Topics for these
workshops include Intermediate git usage and LaTeX among other things. While the
primary purpose is to impart new technical skills to students, these events can be
complemented with a relevant brand networking component.

Similar to the tech talks, these workshops can be led by our industry partners, giving
students insight into how companies use some of these tools in the real world as well
as increasing brand presence in the minds of students. These workshops will be
arranged primarily based on whether a company's topic will be of use and interest to
our members. If you have an idea of a potential workshop, we would love to hear it!

Social Media, Newsletter & Online Presence

Our social media has an outreach of over 1000 people, with more than 350 users
interacting with our posts each week. In addition to this, we have an email newsletter
that all members subscribe to as well as a website.

Each newsletter contains information on upcoming CSSA and other tech-related events
from around ANU and the Canberra area. It is a good avenue of advertising to quickly
reach a large number of students – indeed, many of our members rely solely upon
social media to learn about our activities.

You’ll also have the opportunity to write or promote technical or interesting articles
about work you’re doing on our newsletter as well as our Facebook page.

Common Room

The Common Room is the social nerve center of the CSSA. First opened in 2012, it has
become a high-traffic location for Computer Science, Software Engineering & I.T.
students. It is a small and cozy location with couches and study tables. The room is
almost always in use during business hours and beyond. Advertisements in this are
exposed to a high-volume of foot traffic.

Wall-mounted custom advertisements, e.g. posters, logos & pictures.

Epic Games Night

Run at least twice a year, our biggest event is the famous Epic Games Nights. It is an
8-hour long extravaganza attracting over a hundred students.

In the past we’ve set up 12 projectors, 14 gaming consoles, a PC LAN party and many
different board and card-games. Members enter several gaming tournaments
throughout the night, as well as lucky door prizes.

These nights are widely known to be the best gaming events held on the ANU campus,
having won Event of the Year at the ANU.

Epic Games Nights provides a unique avenue for promotion, with an infinite amount of
opportunities for sponsors.
