PROS AND CONS THE USE OF MOBILE PHONE IN SCHOOL

Nowadays, mobile phone is a technology that has become a trend for youth. Even it has become a part of
life that cannot be abandoned from them. Every teenager certainly has a mobile phone now, starts from
famous branded mobile phone to infamous branded. Teens use it with various ways such as only for
communication, entertainment, and even some teens use it for negative things. The use of mobile phone
that limitless makes them dependency with this tool. They constantly use it even they are at school. Various
problems began arise due to the use of mobile phone in school such as texting during class, keep video or
pornographic images. Therefore, many schools prohibit carrying cell phones at school.
The policy of prohibiting mobile phone for students at school raises pros and cons in the community. For
those who oppose this policy, this policy is considered to limit students’ right to communicate. They assume
that communication is very important for them. There is also a thought that by banning mobile phone will
make students stress easily because they are not able to use it as a means of entertainment and there so
many another opinion.
The most advantageous thing of mobile phones when students use is getting connected. With cell phones
in hand, students are encouraged to build collaborative learning. they are able to share notes and lesson with
others. Additionally with mobile phones, parents of the students will be less worried since they can easily
contact their children.
The second advantages is the existence of mobile phone’s feature as memory aids. Students can store some
important documents of their lessons in notes, photos, or videos. Because of the portability, the documents
kept in that mobile phones can be easily used when they are in necessity.
For those who pros with this policy, considered that it is an appropriate way because it would lead to a
positive impact for students. Reduction in learning is one of the disadvantages. With mobile phone in hands
of students, they are attracted to focus on their phones call and messages and pay less attention to their
lessons and school works. Students will also be able to be controlled because there are few students who
utilize it for negative activities.
Again, the negative effects on using mobile phones, students potentially do cheating. Mobile phones makes
students cheat easily on tests and assignments. They can simply send a text answer to their friends. They
have the ability and opportunity to cheat.
It has become a common thing that every policy has pros and cons. However, things we need to understand
is that every life wants to have good impact and every decision must have the advantages and disadvantages.
What we need to do is to choose to run the decision by looking at the benefits. Does it has more benefits or
even cause a loss for us?
