CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
To determine the effectiveness of the herbal soap and shampoo products then to examine
if the results of the experiment is successful by conducting at least ten test samples to the
One of earliest therapies that man discovered was treatment using plants. The
unreasoning animals often look for herbs when they are sick, and instinctively seek in them the
preventative and healing elements. Man, as an intelligent being and superior to the animals,
observed this natural instinct in then and found that there are many healing properties in the
plants. As man studied and observed the results, man learned that some plants gave better results
in some types of sickness than did others. The healing properties found in the plants are due to
virtues, vitamins, minerals salts, etc., contained in them. Some have acids, such as the citric acids
from the citrus fruits, and other acids may be found in the herbs.
2
It is unfortunate that modern medicine has gotten away from the natural methods of
healing and learned to depend on the use of chemical products. Drugs and chemicals cannot heal.
Many times they can change the nature and the effect of the disease, but the only truly effective
medicine is one that helps the body expel the impurities that cause sickness or supply the
deficiencies that break down the natural resistance. This aspect reveals the importance of the
humble plants. Some benefits of plants was already discovered by man but of course some are
tend to be discovered yet. Herbal plants has many uses, from external use and internal use. One
Soap and shampoo are an almost indispensable element in personal hygiene, prominent
among the many products that exist today for health care and beauty. The hand crafted, natural
and handmade soaps are oriented for people who want to take care of their skin and the
environment are developed under a process called “cold saponification” where all the glycerin
remains in each soap. Herbal soap is a kind of soap mixed with natural ingredients, juice or
extract and vitamins from medicinal plants, fruit and vegetables. Such as Honey, Papain Extract,
Coconut Oil.
One of the newly discovered herbal plant is known as the “Butterfly Pea Flower”, this
plant is used as a vegetable in cooking, color deserts or to make a strikingly vibrant color. Thus,
“Butterfly Pea” is used as a healthy food décor, this plant is promoting antioxidants, flavonoids
and peptides and has shown considerable promise in animal studies as a natural remedy for a
range of health complaints. Now, many beauty products have also been derived from Butterfly
Pea because of the effects of its flavonoid and antioxidant present in the flower been found to
boost collagen production increasing the skin elasticity, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory.
3
By doing such research there are so many methods of using herbal medicine but of course
with the lack of study of how to utilize our natural resources some may not experience the
natural healing product of mother earth. Now, by conducting this experiment some may have this
now how, of how we can create something out of nothing. In making a decision to conduct a
study on medicinal plants, or on projects relevant thereto, the scope of this experiment must be
narrowed down to a level without sacrificing the desire to contribute significantly to the fund of
knowledge.
The study aims to determine the acceptability of the products to apply in the skin.
Psychology 1- B students of STI West Negros University SY 2019- 2020, located at Burgos
Street, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. The class of Psych 1- B is composed of 20 students, 10
males and 10 females’ ages from 18 - 28 years old. Ten students are selected and each students
are required as part of the testers for application of the product. Students will be covered as part
of respondents for Sensory evaluation. This product will be sold through direct selling and orders
are also accepted from the customer within Bacolod City Negros Occidental.

Methodology
A. Hypothesis
Clitoria Pea Flower is an excellent ingredient for making a better herbal soap and
shampoo bar.
Equipment: Pocket scale, Grater, Double Boiler, Stirring rod, Heat safe glass bowl,
Plastic Molds
1. Choose some soap. You can use any type of soap you want, but something unscented
and natural, such as pure-castile soap, would work best. This will give you more options
for customization later on. Plan on using about 12 ounces (341 grams) of soap.
2. Grate or cut the soap or shampoo bar into small pieces. The easiest way to do this
would be with a grater, but you can also mince the soap with a knife. The smaller the

3. Place the soap or the shampoo bar in the microwave for five to ten minutes. To heat
4. Boil the Clitoria Pea Flowers in two glasses of water and use a strainer to separate
the flower from the liquid substance. The flower extract will be used as an ingredient in
5. Place the soap or the shampoo bar into a double boiler. Fill a saucepan with 1 to 2
inches (2.54 to 5.08 centimeters) of water. Set a heat-safe bowl on top; make sure that the
bottom of the bowl does not touch the bottom of the pan. Pour the heated soap or
6. Pour at least 3 or 4 tablespoon of Clitoria Pea Flower extract into the melted soap or
shampoo instead of water. The liquid extract will help soften the soap up. Let the
extract infused into the soap or shampoo bar. Avoid adding too much liquid, or the soap
7. Continue cooking and stirring every 5 minutes until it soap or shampoo bar
softens. Rebatch soap will never fully melt like melt-and-pour soap. Instead, it will turn
into a grainy mixture, sort of like oatmeal or mashed potatoes. Be patient. This can take
about 1 to 2 hours.
6
8. Mix in some Honey and stir for 10 minutes. Like Clitoria Pea Flower, honey is full of
antioxidants that can help fight aging and acne to enhance the effect of the Clitoria Pea
9. Prepare the molder and put the mixture in the molder. Purchase a plastic soap
making mold. If your mold is plain and you want fancy soap, add in a rubber soap
10. Add few Clitoria Pea Flowers in the mixture. To add texture and to add extra exfoliant
to remove dead cells from the surface of the skin. The exfoliant gently buff away dry
11. Few sprays of rubbing alcohol to remove the bubbles. To prevent soda ash on cold
process soap, and helps layers stick together when working with melt and pour.
12. Pop the soap or shampoo bar into a freezer for 30 minutes - 1 hour before curing.
13. Remove the soap from the freezer for curing. In this case, after removing the soap
from the freezer, set it down on a wire cooling rack, let it air dry for 2 to 4 weeks and

Research Design
This research was carried out in STI WNU, 10 student evaluators of with the same courses were
selected. Students were invited to participate in the voluntary survey by completing self-

Survey Results
A. Individual Survey
These are the results of conducting surveys from each evaluators in B.S Psychology 1-B ages 18-
28 years old. Only one out of ten evaluators answered differently about these new produced
herbal products in (Fig. 1). Based on the questions given, the four Good answers was only
given by a certain evaluator. The answer of this evaluator varies only with the presentation of the
product. Other than that, the rest of evaluators gives an impression that this products are

Conclusions
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions are drawn:
1. The researchers conclude the benefits of the herbal soaps and shampoo bar are really effective;
2. The researchers conclude that the ingredients can give affect the students choice of soap;
3. The researchers then conclude that most of the students do not mind about the packaging and
Recommendations
Based on the findings and conclusions presented, the following recommendations are suggested:
1. The researchers recommend that using herbal soaps can lessen the damage in the skin than
2. The researchers recommend that improving and putting the information of the soap and
shampoo bar in the packaging can help understand the aim of the products.
3. The researchers recommend that Butterfly Pea Flower should be included in herbal soaps
