INTRODUCTION
Communication is needed because we can interact o other people and use language to
make relation. Language is used to render a message from one people to other people in spoken
or even in written. By a language every people can connect with another people. But sometimes
people have problem to understand another language, because each language has different
vocabularies, therefore its needs to learn translation that make easier language understanding.
Translation is a process of transferring language from one language too another language.
Translation is needed in written text or spoken such as novel, comic, movie and so on, for
example, when we read a foreign novel we feel easy to get Indonesian version or when we watch
movie in English subtitle, we need Indonesian subtitle to understand the meaning clearly. It
means translation process will be needed. The process of translation transfer not only meaning
from source language (SL) into target language (TL) but also many aspect such as culture, ida
and custom. Bad or good translation depends on the translator, it needs highly qualified
translators, who have good knowledge about the target language (TL), since they have to convey
meaning from source language (SL). A translator should be able to translate various translations
which usually are applied some procedures to resolve the cultural term problem.
A theory by Nida and Taber (1969) in Shafa Firda Nila, who say that some of the most
common shifts in meaning found in the translation process are modifications which involve
specific or specific to generic. A shifts may results from a difference of the system in both
languages. The difference can be in the form of vocabulary or structure, the shifts caused by the
vocabulary results in a shift a meaning. It can be concluded that there are two kinds of shifts in
meaning. The first is the meaning shifts from general to specific meaning. The second is the
meaning shifts from specific to general meaning. These kinds of shifts often cause incorrect
translation. The shifts of structure, however, usually does not change the meaning or the message
of the original text.
