DAMAGED WATER HEATER REPORT

Brief Description:

Last March 11, 2019, two water heaters at DAEWOO’s Staff house (8C) were reportedly damaged while
being used by the owner.

Investigation findings:

Findings showed that the temperature setting was set too high while being used by the owner. The
water heater has both an upper and lower thermostat and they should be adjusted to the same temperature. The
thermostat controls the on and off cycle of water heater elements. In the case of a malfunction, there must be a safety
feature that will trigger if the thermostat fails to shut off power to the boiler elements during routine cycling.

Immediate Cause:

The safety mechanism of the thermostat failed to work properly and the elements continued to heat the water.
This led to unsafe temperature levels and caused the water heater to overheat.

Root Cause:

Lack of knowledge while handling the device.
