2(d) was your team successful in negotiating these priorities into the new collective agreement?
Why or why not
Ans. 1) no reduction in staff : this was our first priority and it was challenging for management as it directly affect employee’s job security and income but in the end, management agreed with this because this could save cost in recruitment and training of new employees. This was done by agreeing to their terms in regard to layoffs on the basis of evaluation. 2) Increase in salary: this was our second priority and management didn’t agree with us at any cost they want to decrease the salary by 10% and we want an increase by 10% after negotiation we both settle at middle ground and come on an agreement that neither salary increase nor decrease. 3) And 4) health benefits and paid sick leave: we were firm in order to require health benefits. In the beginning management didn’t agree with our terms but after having an argument management were open to give 6 paid leave a year. Moreover, offer pension plan to union. So it was a win-win situation 5)evaluation: we do not want any formal method of evaluation. Management did not agree as they do not want to give right to union and want to do things on their own. After simulation they concur to hire a neutral third party consultant.
