マンガを用いた授業

レベル：初級から上級まで

創造力豊かに、各自のレベルに合わせてオリジナルマンガを作る授業。最後に会話を声に出して発表すること
で、感情をこめて発言する練習となり、演技力も身につける。

Learning English through Comics: Lesson Plan Hi, how

Time: 45 minutes are you?
Made for any level of English

Objective: Students will practice writing skills in a creative manner. They will I’m tired today.
create a comic strip on a topic at their level. How are you?

Introduction: Find some comic books or Manga and show them to the students. They should
be easy English level comics. You can also have some Japanese comics, so that the students
understand what is expected.

Books: “Yo Yes?” By Chris Rachka (also in Japanese)

Materials: Comic Pages (attached) Teacher can make copies attachments and pass out to the students. Teacher can
write words in the bubbles for the very basic level students (Level 1) More advanced students can write their own
words. Use PAGE 1: you can use to cut out and paste to magazine cut-outs or student drawings, by writing your own
words or using the words provided. Page 2 can be used for students to draw comics on.

Practice: Have students work in pairs to come up with a story line for the following comic. These can be hung in the
classroom or the hallway so students can see the various stories that they came up with.

Differentiated Activity: For all the following activities students can draw pictures or cut pictures from magazines or
advertisements.

Level 1: Students can create a comic that shows basic conversational English. (Hi, how are you? I’m fine, thank you. How
are you?)

Level 2: Students can make a short story about anything they know how to write about. (Ask them to choose a topic on
something they can use the vocabulary that they know (weather: rainy, sunny, hot, cold. School: books, desk, chair,
pencil, teacher. Sports: soccer, baseball, friends, fun)
Level 3: Students can create a story from a topic that is being studied in another class. (History class: World War 1 story,
Science: How a seed grows into a flower)

Allow students to rewrite stories from Japanese books or things they learn in other classes. Then they may have
information in their mind, and they can simply translate it to learn the new words in English.

初級：

 雑誌の広告のページ等に、２ページ目のセリフを切り取って貼る。
 挨拶の会話を考え、簡単なフレーズあるいは単語をひとつずつ書いてみる。

中級：

 最近の授業で学んだことを活用し、自分の使える語彙を駆使してストーリーを作る。たとえば、季節、
学校生活、スポーツ、友達の紹介等）
 理科の授業でやった種から花までの観察マンガ日記を英語で作る。

上級：

 最近の歴史の授業で学んだ事件の中から選んで歴史上の人物がどういう発言をしたかを考えてマンガ
にする。

Closing: Students can share their comics with the class or they can share it in pairs.
