Reaction paper on The Concept of Writing: Its Implication for Teaching

" Writing means much more than orthograhic symbols" first let me define first what is
orthograpy- it is an art of writing words with proper letters, according to accepted usage and
correct spelling, an regard with this statement arapoff (1975) states that "writing is a thinking
process which is characterized by purposeful selection and organization of experience" ,she
means that when the pupil goes through a writing experience he does not merely see
grammatical rules, learning to write is somewhat selecting and organizing experiences, it is
likewise implicit in Arapoff's statement that teaching second language which is the English to
pupils to write is significantly different from teaching English grammar. In continuation
Smith(1976) views "writing as primarily a face to face Communication" ,in relation with this
writing relates not only to Express something but also to communicate something in a particular
situation to specifiable person, clarifying his position further Smith explains that there is a
writer in Communication with a reader,that this wruter wishes to communicate some kind of
message to the reader and to do so he will have to select particular works and structures to
effect successfully. There are two problem that the teacher of Second language faces, first is
teaching the pupils to select and organize words to form grammatical sequenses. It is a problem
since most of the pupils now a days, and even in our days before , don't know how to use
correct grammar because they are just a kid and they don't have enough knowledge to correct
their grammar,so for that part of the teachers it is really hard to do so . Second problem is
teaching the pupils to select and organize words to achieve a particular rhetorical aim . In
connection with this, the pupils are required to learn how to orgabize sentences in a way that a
definite Communication purposes is served.

Walter(1983) considers writing as a process of construction,with the simple sentence


as a basic element basic element because simple sentences can be a compound and complex
but before you will come up with that,you are going to write a simple sentences. By this means
that writing is a step by step process which some mastery at one level us essential before the
learners advanced to the next level. After they have learned to manipulate the basic element
pattern,they can proceed to expand them by adding adjectives and adverbs until it will become
more complex . To Peck and Buckingham (1976) writing is an extension of the language and
experience that the learners already have, on other words,the vocabulary items that the pupils
already know are the materials for his own writing experience. When someone is going to write
he conveys message in the the form of ideas and feelings to others and when one reads he
receive from others their ideas and feelings, so the writing and writing are inseparably linked,so
when you're going to write well,one must learn to read well.

Consolidatory writing is primarily designed to reinforce oral skills and it's provide the
opportunity in basic structures, grammar,rules and lexical items and rhetorical pattern gained
through oral and reading experiences just like for example copying sentences and
paragraphs,taking down sentences and paragraphs from dictation. Rewriting sentences and
selecting the correct word from the parenthesis,substituting correct grammatical forma and
structures,substituting correct expression or vocabulary terms in sentences and substituting
specific and vivid forms for general words. While in the other hand free writing is s free
communication,it focuses on the creative use of language in communication of ideas like for an
instance, writing personal notes and letters, business notes and letters, simple narration,
description, explanation and argumentation.

So in writing you are going to think and to select relevant topic and at the same time and
to present them in a coherent and logical orders.
