Economics 11 – C

1 a. The Philippine economy grew from 6.9 percent year-on-year in 2016 to 6.7 percent
year-on-year in 2017. Growth was anchored in strong exports, while investment growth
significantly slowed and consumption growth moderated. The Philippines’ annual exports rose
sharply in 2017 and became the main engine of economic growth. The Philippines’ economic
freedom score is 63.8, making its economy the 70th freest in the 2019 Index. The Philippines is
ranked 15th among 43 countries in the Asia–Pacific region, and its overall score is above the
regional and world averages.
Dumaguete City has been conferred by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) as
second ranked component city in Government Efficiency among all component cities in the
Philippines. Dumaguete City nurtured a small and medium enterprises, established with DTI to
provide business registration assistance, business advisory services, business information and
advocacy, and others. City Treasurer Cristina Merced projected P324 million revenues from
local sources or businesses alone in 2019. Mayor Remollo will be proposing a P790 million
budget for 2019. He also enhanced the Business One Stop Shop or BOSS to assist all
entrepreneurs, big and small, to experience doing business in Dumaguete City and as a result,
there are now 7, 459 business establishments operating in the city in first half of 2018, an
increase from just 7, 074 in 2016. This also 10, 102 local jobs from July 2017 to June 2018.

b. For me I think it would still need a few more decades in order for Philippines to
achieve in attaining and sufficing the objectives given since the most “central “challenge facing
the Philippines is how to accelerate inclusive growth that creates more and better jobs and
reduces poverty. So far this has proven to be elusive, mainly because of the country’s long
history of policy distortions that have slowed the growth of agriculture and manufacturing in the
last six decades. Instead of rising agricultural productivity paving the way for the development of
a vibrant labor-intensive manufacturing sector and subsequently of a high-skill services sector,
the agricultural productivity has remained depressed, manufacturing has failed to grow
sustainably, and a low-productivity, low-skill services sector has emerged as the dominant
feature of the economy.
c. For me, I think if Dumaguete would be able to provide jobs, increasing its
employment rate and decrease its crime rate, I think it would not be long that Dumaguete would
be able to attain a better quality of life.
d. For me, the clear indicator that the Philippines is close to attaining the “the better
quality of life” is when more people will be given jobs. Since the Philippines have an
employment rate of 94.8% since January 2019. It can be measured and monitored through its
employment rate.
2a. For me it’s misconception #2 because sometimes we need to keep repeating a lot of
times for us to master and develop our skills because practice makes perfect.
b. For me it’s misconception #1 since a lot of people doesn’t care about “boring facts”
and they won’t have the motivation, or they are tired in doing things and this can be a hindrance
to growth.
c. Misconception #3 because short term view cannot really mitigate the hindrance
possibly encountered since that person is only thinking it short term and not long-term effect.
3a. All of us have different paths and courses in life so it is up to us in what path we
would want to take, and it is our duty to mold ourselves into a greater person om what we wo
chose.
b. The concept of Phenomenology by Morrow, Rodriguez and King which is integrated
in the understanding of Alfred’s Marshall definition is all about the understanding of people’s
everyday life experiences and of which these experiences become and ordinary business of life
and be easily be made by our own decisions and how we deal with it in our own ways.
c. The concept of Phenomenology by Edmund Husserl which is integrated in the
understanding of Alfred’s Marshall definition is all about how we should be all to tell the truth
and only the truth for it lies the whole story of one’s life. In economics it is important that the
truth should have sense for one to have a grasp of knowledge of what there going to do to make a
better life for everyone.
d. The concept of Phenomenology by Eugene Jonesco which is integrated in the
understanding of Alfred’s Marshall definition is all about how we think first before dealing with
the problem because this affects how we see or answer it and can affect our way of life.
