COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE
Team Foods Colombia remains the leading player in butter and spreads, mainly due to its strength in
margarine, but also a strong presence in cooking fats. The company has numerous highly recognised
brands in margarine, with Campi a particularly strong line with a wide variety of options. The player
is also diversifying its offer in butter and spreads. In this vein, it introduced Gourmet in margarine as
a brand extension of its leading vegetable oil. The new Gourmet offering is focused on providing
healthy fatty acids, which are becoming mainstream in many oily products, as they are believed to
enhance brain and cardiovascular health. Team Foods Colombia has also launched creamy margarine
in flexible plastic packaging under La Buena. This new offering is promoted for its convenience,
while being suitable for frying, spreading and mashing.
Diana Corporación continues to record by far the fastest retail value sales growth in butter and spreads
in 2019. The company offers Gustosita margarine, which is promoted as being fortified with vitamins,
with prices similar to those of discounters’ private label products. Gustosita is promoted as versatile,
as it can be used as a spread or for cooking and baking. Diana Corporación’s products are supported
by a strong distribution network that allows coverage through independent small grocers nationwide.

Another interesting development in margarine concerns the appearance of Cheff, a new brand by
Sigra, which focuses on the supply of raw material for industry and foodservice. Cheff is promoted as
a margarine featuring a mix of vegetable oils and offering a lasting buttery taste, suitable for cooking
and baking.
