Interview Questions

Carlos Sanchez
Carolina Aesthetic Dentistry

What is a typical day in the life? What does a work a work day consist of?
- Typically, my staff members and I are working on a four day week. During those 4 days,
surprisingly, most of my patients are in attendance for regular dental checkups and
cleanings. As for the 2nd most popular group of visiting patients is for cavities; in which
has become a mastered routine. Not very often do I perform operations for individuals
requiring maximum dental care.

How was dental school? Did you face any problems along the way?
- Believe it or not, as entering into dental school after receiving my undergrad, I went into
it with more determination and motivation than ever before in my life. I would study as
much as I could and ensure to get my money's worth as dental school became very
expensive to me. Thankfully, this mindset stuck with me throughout dental school and I
was able to graduate a year earlier than expected, and obtain my dentistry license.

How did you prepare for the dental admissions test?

- Preparing for the dental admissions test was amongst one of the greatest challenges I
have faced throughout my dental journey. A group of fellow classmates and I got
together 6 days a week, and devoted our entire all to studying for 3 hours per day, for 4
months. Thankfully, we were all able to do majorly acceptable and would be accepted
into top of the notch dental schools.

As a practice owner, was it tough financially to get things started?

- As coming out of dental school, I was in a very tough financial situation as I had over
$200,000 in debt. However, i've stuck with the mindset throughout my life, “If you want to
make money, you've got to spend money”. The $200,000 and company (practice) costs
would put me in a tough financial situation during the first few years as a dentist, but they
would have eventually payed themselves back and would leave me in a good standing
financial situation.

Do you enjoy your profession as much as you thought you would?

- There’s nothing else I could have imagined as my perfect occupation. End of story. I
knew this was for me throughout the journey and that has lived up to its name.

Any tips for students hoping to pursue dental school?

- Study, study, study! No other way to put it. Find a group of classmates and work to
achieve excellence by helping each other along the way!

What is your biggest challenge as a dentist?

- The biggest challenge for me as a dentist, and many other dentists who own practices
across the country, is maintaining the expenses which are brought upon in taxes,
company costs, office rent , and material costs. Thankfully, I have a great group of team
members helping in the financial aspect and getting expenses payed.

What are you most proud of that your company has accomplished?
- At Carolina Aesthetic Dentistry, we practice evidence based dentistry which puts our
dentists at the forefront of medical and dental expertise and application. Our doctors are
continuously participating in education and research seminars and courses. This allows
us to offer specialized services such as L-PRF and Digital Smile Design which have
been greatly impactful in providing patients top of the line services.
