Difference between light pen and touch screen is-

Light pen - A light pen is a pointing device shaped like a

pen which contains light sensors and is connected to a
VDU (Visual Displays Unit)
Touch screen - A display device which allows the user
to interact with a computer, phone etc. by touching
areas on the screen.

Light Pen & Tuch Screen

d) Light Pen
A light pen is a hand-held electro-optical pointing device which is connected to the computer by a
cable. When it touches to a connected computer monitor, it will allow the computer to determine
where on that screen the pen is pointed. It facilitates drawing images and selects objects on the
display screen by directly pointing to the objects with the pen. Light pens give the user the full range
of mouse capabilities, without using the pad and any horizontal surface. Using light pens, the user can
interact more easily with applications in such modes as dragging and dropping or highlighting. It is
very popular for graphic work in engineering like CAD (Computer Aided Design)
e) Touch Screen
A touch screen is a special kind of screen device, which is placed on the computer monitor in order to
allow the direct selection or activation of the computer’s information, when somebody touches the
screen. Essentially, it registers the input when a finger or other object to touch the screen. Touch
screen is normally used to touch the screen. Touch screen is normally used to access the information
with minimum effort. However, it is not suitable for input of large amount of data. Typically, they are
used in information-providing systems like the hospital, airlines, railway reservation counters,
amusement parks, etc.

Daisy wheel printers is a Wheel type printers which is looks like a typewriter as typewriter
its print only characters and symbols and cannot print graphics. They are generally slow with
a printing speed of about 10 to 75 characters per second. A printer that produces letter-
quality type. A daisy-wheel printer works on the same principle as a ball-head typewriter.
The daisy wheel is a disk made of plastic or metal on which characters stand out in relief
along the outer edge. To print a character, the printer rotates the disk until the desired letter
is facing the paper. Then a hammer strikes the disk, forcing the character to hit an ink
ribbon, leaving an impression of the character on the paper. You can change the daisy
wheel to print different fonts.

Advantages
 Low maintenance
 Low costs
 Can create carbon copies
 Can use fan-fold paper and heavy paper grades
 Better print quality than a Dot-Matrix Printer
Disadvantages
 Noisy printing
 No graphics
 Limited number of characters/types
Thermal printer uses colour waxes and heat to produce images on special paper. The
colour wax sheets are not required for black-and-white output. Thermal printers are
expensive and require costly paper. These printers are used to create the highest-quality
colour printing. businesses are using thermal printing for their transactions including airline
tickets,ATM Machine, Movie Ticket , Mall Stores. It has increased popularity because of its
graphic capabilities, quality of print, speed and technological advances.

Advantages
 No need to buy Ink , Just buy paper
 Ink-less no Hand Dirty.
 No issues with ribbons wrinkling when printing
 Less physical Space
 Eliminates cartridge size
 Less maintenance inside fewer moving parts, thermal printers tend to last longer, are easier to
maintain.
Disadvantages:
 Printing on paper is not permanent is exposure to sunlight or extreme heat. it fade from the
exposure.
 Even without sun exposure, printing will be fade over long periods of time. For labelling
boxes kept in inventory for years, direct thermal is not the best choice.
 Print speeds is slower.
 Paper is costly
 Putting acrylic adhesive tape over a direct thermal label will cause the label to fade.
A Zip drive and Zip disk is a hardware
data storage device developed
by Iomega that functions like a
standard 1.44" floppy drive and
diskette. What makes the Iomega Zip
drive unique is its capability to hold up
to 100 MB of data or 250 MB of data on
the later models. Iomega Zip drives
became very popular in late 1990s but
quickly became less popular as users
needed larger storage capabilities. The
drive was eventually replaced by CD-
R and CD-RW drives and discs as they
became cheaper since they offered
much more storage and compatibility.

In the picture is an example of Iomega

Zip disk, which is bigger than a floppy
diskette and made of a much harder
plastic. Much like a floppy diskette, the
Zip disk contains a magnetic circular
disk that holds information. To read
and write information on a Zip diskette,
it is placed into a Zip drive that moves
the metal cover exposing the magnetic
disk.

Storage A Blu-ray disc can hold about 25 GB (gigabytes) of data. Dual
layer Blu-ray discs can hold as much as 50 GB of data. The
larger storage capacity of a Blu-ray disc is a clear advantage
over standard DVDs, allowing higher quality of video and
audio to be stored.
Cost The price of Blu-ray players is more affordable than ever. DVD players and discs are cheaper

BD may refer to any of the following:

Short for Blu-ray disc, BD or BD-

ROM, is an optical disc format
developed by thirteen consumer
electronics and PC companies. These
companies include Dell, Hitachi, Hewlett
Packard, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Son
y, and TDK. Blu-ray was first
introduced at the CES on January
4, 2006, and can store up to 25 GB
single-layer disc and 50 GB on a dual-
layer disc, each disc being the same
size as a standard CD. The picture

Blu-ray was first backed by Apple,

and other companies mentioned above.
On February 19, 2008, Blu-ray beat
out HD DVD in the high-definition disc
format wars.

CAPABILITIES AND LIMITATIONS

OF COMPUTER

CAPABILITIES:-
1. It is self directing. The user merely feeds all the instructions to the
computer at the start and later proceeds without any need for
human intervention.
2. Ability to store and retrieve information. The computer has the
ability to remember or recall data when finds the need for them.
3. Ability to perform mathematical operations and solve complex
formula at high speed and with great precision. A very fast
computer can perform the addition of 20 million pairs of ten-digit
numbers in one second.
4. Ability to perform logic operation. The computer is capable of
comparing numbers, letters of alphabet and special characters.
Based on the results of comparison, the computer can direct to take
alternative actions.
LIMITATIONS
1. It can do only what is designed or programmed to do. If
you ask the computer to get the total payroll for a certain
period, it will give you only the total payroll and not the net
salary or gross salary of each employee.
2. It cannot correct input data. If you mistakenly entered an
hour rate of P50 per hour, the computer cannot respond to
the actual rate of P40 per hour.
3. It cannot think and cannot derive meanings from objects.
The computer cannot interpret your favorite poem or your
present mood.
4. It can only process jobs expressed in a number of steps
leading to a precisely defined goal.
5. It cannot completely avoid making errors due to power
fluctuations, system malfunctions and human disorders.
