IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION:


This course is an introduction to the basic concepts in sociology and anthropology with stress on the study of culture, social organizations and
institutions, rural and urban problems, family life, socio-cultural change and population education. Focus will be given on to analysis of current
sociological phenomena in the Philippines today.

IV. COURSE OBJECTIVES:


At the end of the course, students should be able to:

A. Cognitive
 Demonstrate understanding of the major concepts in sociology and anthropology.
 Explain the importance of culture and how it influences a person’s behaviour and relationships in the society.
 Evaluate Filipino culture in light of the teachings of the Scriptures.
 Discuss the importance of family planning and how various birth control methods are used.

B. Affective
 Demonstrate appreciation other cultures and societies.
 Value Filipino cultural traits that are in agreement with the standard of the Scriptures.

C. Psychomotor
 Make an assessment of prevalent problems in the Philippine society today and design appropriate course of actions to solve to those
problems.
 Respond effectively to various anthropological and sociological concepts learned in the course by applying them to specific situations in
their lives and ministry.

V. COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Attendance and active participation in all sessions.
2. Reading assignments – selected readings from references.
3. Tests, exams and group output.
4. Term Paper – 8-10 pages; double space; with cover page; and following the commonly accepted term paper format of IBC. It must have at least 7
bibliographic references. Students may write about the following:
a. A particular problem in the society and suggested solutions for that problem.
b. A Filipino value or specific topic concerning Philippine culture.
c. A major concept in Sociology or Anthropology.
The paper should show it is well-thought, well-researched, and must cite references properly.
