GIVING TUESDAY

THE PAX CENTER | LAPORTE, INDIANA

Brighton Street Green Space

A NOTE FROM OUR CEO/PRESIDENT
It started with a sign in the yard.

We knew that food insecurity was not only an injustice in need of engagement, but it was
also one that was impacting our immediate neighbors. When kids don't get enough to
eat — especially during their first three years — they begin life at a disadvantage. Children
and adults are more likely to be hospitalized and face higher risks of health conditions
like anemia and asthma when they are hungry. When hunger exists, individuals, families,
and communities struggle.

Nine years ago, we put a sign in the yard that told our neighbors we have a food pantry
for those in need. Three hundred individuals were fed the first month out of a small room
at State Street Community Church. We listened to our neighbors tell stories of their
struggles. We heard about hunger, poverty, and loneliness. We saw the tremendous
impact each one of those injustices has on people. We made a commitment that whoever
comes to us in need of food will be fed.

Since 2010, we have helped over 6,000 different individuals in LaPorte County have
access to food and a support network. We no longer have that same sign in the front yard
advertising the food pantry to our neighbors. We no longer need it. When people are
hungry, lonely, or disoriented in this world, they know the Pax Center is there to help.
And, it's because of your partnership and support that we persist.

We don't solicit for donations often. Instead, we host one HUGE day of generosity called
Giving Tuesday. It's on December 3rd, 2019. In our short history, the Pax Center has
made substantial impacts on hunger, poverty, and loneliness
in LaPorte County. The funds raised go directly to the
programs and projects that help our neighbors each day.

In this brochure are sponsorship levels and information on

our current and upcoming initiatives. Please consider
partnering with the Pax Center in 2020 to help LaPorte
County be well-fed and well-loved.

THE FOOD PANTRY

The food pantry exists so that nobody in LaPorte

County has to worry about his or her next meal.
The Pax Center distributes groceries to
900-1,100 LaPorte County residents each
month. Instead of being handed a standard box
of food, food pantry participants are greeted by
a friendly and helpful staff while being allowed
to choose their own groceries from overflowing
shelves. Thanks to the help of generous
community partners, the Pax Center can provide
fresh fruits and vegetables to each visitor as well.

COMMUNIT Y MEALS
The table is an extension of the family. It is a
place to gather, laugh, cry, and eat together. To
combat the poverty of loneliness and to foster
familiar experiences in the LaPorte community,
the Pax Center hosts two weekly community
meals. Each meal has a salad, main course, and
dessert. Everyone is welcome because, at the
Pax Center, everyone is family.

Did you know? The Pax Center's volunteer

teams provided 6,715 delicious hot meals last
year at our community meals.
