Social Media are Bad for Teenagers
Social media Web sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and many others have become
nearly inescapable facets of modern life, particularly for teenagers. Social media is becoming
more than just a part of their world, it’s becoming their world. Teens are spending more and
more time online, usually on a social media platform like Facebook or Twitter. Most teens now
have smart phones where they are on social media networks all throughout the day. They are
constantly texting, tweeting, and posting pictures via Snapchat and Instagram. However, hyper-
connected to social media could be bad for them.

Today teens don’t know how to disconnect. Social media has allowed them to take their life
online from the time they wake up till they back to sleep via their smart phone. One reason this
“always connected” activity is harmful is because of the alarming trend of cyberbullying.
Bullying has now moved from not only being in the school and on the bus, but online. What
does this mean? If a teen is getting bullied, they cannot get away from it! The people bullying
them simply continue their bullying via social media

A new study has found that teenagers who engage with social media during the night could be
damaging their sleep and increasing their risk of anxiety and depression. Teenagers spoke about
the pressure they felt to make themselves available 24/7, and the resulting anxiety if they did
not respond immediately to texts or posts. Teens are so emotionally invested in social media
that a fifth of secondary school pupils will wake up at night and log on, just to make sure they
don’t miss out.

Another impact social media has had on teens is teens being more comfortable online doing
things that they should be more sensitive to doing. A separate study by the National Citizen
Service found that, rather than talking to their parents, girls seek comfort on social media when
they are worried. The survey also suggests that girls are likely to experience stress more often
than boys – an average of twice a week.

Social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and many others are basically created to
connect everyone around the globe so they can interact and communicate each other. However,
too much exposure of social media can also be bad especially for teenagers. As it mentioned
above, social media could become media for bullying, risk them of anxiety and depression, and
risk their real-life social interaction. Therefore, social media are dangerous for teenagers’
health both mentally and emotionally.

TV is Bad for Children

Television plays very important role in our lives, and it is also main source of entertainment.
We watch TV whenever we are free, or sometimes while working, and learn many things from
it. As the TV is used in our daily life, it broadcasts many live events and news which educate
us in many ways. But, sometimes children watch those programs on TV which should not
meant to be viewed by child's age group and have many negative impacts on their lives.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that kids under 2 years old not watch
any TV and that those older than 2 watch no more than 1 to 2 hours a day. The first 2 years of
life are considered a critical time for brain development. TV and other electronic media can get
in the way of exploring, playing, and interacting with parents and others, which encourages
learning and healthy physical and social development. As kids get older, too much screen time
can interfere with activities such as being physically active, reading, doing homework, playing
with friends, and spending time with family.

I believe that many children who watch TV for long hours, have many negative impacts on
their health such as they may weak their eye-sight at young age. In fact, these children should
spend most of their time playing and studying, which would give them better result later and
keep them healthy as well. If these children keep wasting their precious time watching TV for
long hours instead studying, it may affect their school result.

Many children tend to follow their favorite actors or actress and imitate them by wearing same
cloths, following same attitude and try to speak same languages. This becomes worse when
they watch any action movies and perform same actions at home, which might injure them or
change their behavior toward other people.

Television indeed can be a media to entertain and to teach children something. However,
programs in TV are not designed for children only; they also include some programs for adult.
Watching TV too much could make children following some clothes, attitudes, and language
which may be bad for them. Too much watching TV also will weaken children eyes. Thus,
watching TV too much is bad for children.

Compromise in Our Live
In daily live, every people faces many problem. To solve the problem, there are alot of ways
that can be used, one of them is compromise. Compromise is one of the way people solve a
problem by making a win-win solution to each side. Although not all the problems can be
solved by compromise, but compromise can be choosen as the way to solve a problem
sometimes such as in the traditional market between seller and buyer, between two or more
people when they are working in a group and in traffic acccident. In many situation,
compromise is necessary.

In the traditional market, a lot of sellers and buyers meet to do trading process. In this place,
the problem they have to solve is about how to get the deal about the price of some goods.
Seller and buyer usually use compromise to solve the problem of the goods’ prices which the
seller sells or the buyer wants to buy. In this case, compromise occur when buyer asks the price
of goods. If the price is too high for the buyer, the buyer do not agree of the price and she or he
will bargain for the lowest price they can get. If there is a deal between two sides, compromise
has done. Both sides will get the advantages of the transaction they have done, but if there is
no deal, the reverse happens. In the transaction above, both seller and buyer want the benefit
from it. To get benefit from trading process, whether they are aware or not, they use
compromise. After there is a deal between the two sides, both of the get advantages.
Compromise makes both seler and buyer can solve the problem withuot one of them be
disappointed.

Compromise also necessary when we work in group and discussing a problem. A group consist
of two or more people with different behaviour and emotional. They have their own way or
idea to solve the problem. In this situation, compromise is needed to get the best way to solve
the problem. Compromise happens when every part of te group give their idea about how to
solve the problem they are discussing. After all the idea received, there is just one idea reputed
as the best way. Sometimes we do not agree to the result of the dicussing, but we have to accept
it. When we can accept the result of the discussing whether or not agree to the result, we also
do compromise. Compromise in this situation can solve the problem in a group, the problem
about the difference of idea. Sometimes we can not think about just ourselves, we also think
about group, because we are the group’s part.

In traffic accident situation compromise also can be the best way for us to solve our problem.
When people get accident in the road, sometimes they prefer to do compromise than bring the
problem to the police office. Compromise in this situation is the best way to solve the problem.
If they bring this problem to the police office, it will make the problem more complex than
before. Compromise done when the victim and the suspecy of the accident get the deal about
the way they solve the problem, such as by giving some money to the victim. Compromise
make the problem between the victim and suspect are solved in peace. The victim of the
accident got the money for recovery and for his or her car repair. The suspect can avoided by
getting some more problem with the police. There we can see that compromise can used as the
simplest way to a problem. Compromise makes both sides, the victim and the suspect of the
accident csn solve the problem well.

In conclusion, although not all the problems can be solved by using compromise, it is important
for us to use it as the best and first way to solve the problem. The problem such as in the
traditional market, work in gruop, and in the traffic can solve by using compromise.
Compromise makes the problem solved in simple way and also give benefit to both sides. We
should consider to use compromise as the way we solve our problem.

Corruption and Indonesian Culture

Corruption has happened for many years and today it becomes a bad culture in
Indonesia for three reasons.
Most adult Indonesian or foreigners have known and admitted that corruptions happen
in many places. The daily newspapers, news programs on TV and radio have reported
corruptions are done everywhere, almost in all departments or public services of this country.
Corruptions happen in health, education departments and banks. When we manage to get some
documents in public service offices, we usually need much money to pay. Manipulations
happen everywhere.
The actions to eliminate corruption are weak. The ever stronger culture seems not to
come to an end when the responsible institutions who have to reinforce the justice today
commit corruption. This is the worst. Corruptions happen in police department, courts where
judges, public prosecutors, lawyers make deals to do corruption. All of us also heard in the end
of 2004, Probosutejo reported that he had bribed the Supreme Court, or called Mahkamah
Agung which becomes the highest level where the justice can be obtained. Perhaps you have
to try to come to the local courts and see what happen there. You will see practices of bribery
and other kinds of corruption. Therefore, we can say that corruptions becomes our culture. Do
you like it?
The citizens have no goodwill to fight against the corruption. They create the situations
in which people ahave opportunities to do corruptions. The citizens like to break the rules
because they are not disciplined. For example, in the street when they drive a car or ride
motorcycle, they do not have the driving license or necessary documents. Then, they are caught
by the local policemen. To avoid more difficulties, they like to bribe the officer. The officer let
them go then. In other words, the citizens and officers are the same, doing corruption together.
If only the people were critical, disciplined, and obey the rules, and willing to report any wrong
behaviors, this country will not be number one corrupting country in the world.
Conclusion Based on the reasons, we can conclude that corruption is becoming a bad
culture in Indonesia if it is not ended soon by all of us. It seems that there must be more severe
penalty for the Corruptors. Do we still care about the future of this country?
