7. 7. Definition of Counseling: - the process of guiding a person during a stage of life when
reassessments or decisions have to be made about himself or herself and his or her life
course.
8. 8. Counseling is not the same thing as giving advice (making recommendations) Counseling
helps clients to make their own decisions.
9. 9. Discussion Point: How is counseling different to interviewing?
10. 10. Interviewing is: collecting information for a specific use as opposed to counseling which
involves assisting clients to understand their emotions and reactions to a situation.

distressed , or in a negative state of mind Counseling methods: face-to-face dialog, group
