4.1 INT. AIRPLANE CABIN — EVENING 4.1

We hear the muddled audio from a VIDEO uploaded to Reddit

just before the flight took off.

PASSENGER FILMING
(narrating for video)
What’s this lady doin’?

PSYCHIC WITCH
(frantic)
You don’t understand! We have to
get everyone off this plane.

PASSENGER FILMING
She’s flippin’ out!

FLIGHT ATTENDANT
Ma’am, please return to your seat.
We’re about to pull back from the
gate.

PSYCHIC WITCH
No, no, no, we can’t do that. We
need to get off right now.

PASSENGER FILMING
(whispering into phone)
Yo, there’s this crazy lady on my
plane.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT
Please calm down, ma’am.

PSYCHIC WITCH
(hysterical)
Don’t touch me! Don’t touch me,
don’t touch me. Let me off this
plane!

The CLICK AND STATIC of a walkie talkie in the distance.

Another steward mutters into it.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT
Ma’am, are you feeling OK? Have you
— have you taken something?

PSYCHIC WITCH
No, I haven’t taken anything! This
plane —

PASSENGER FILMING
She’s drunk.
 PASSENGER LIST 1.04 2.

PSYCHIC WITCH
This plane is going to crash.

General MUTTERING throughout the cabin.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT
(quietly)
You’re upsetting the other
passengers. Please take your seat.

PASSENGER FILMING
Ohhhh.

Security ENTERS the cabin.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT
OK. OK. He’s going to escort you
off.

PSYCHIC WITCH
(screeching)
I need to get off this plane right
now!

Security COMES FORWARD to grab her.

SECURITY
Ma’am, please calm down.

PSYCHIC WITCH
No, no, don’t touch me, don’t touch
me!

PASSENGER FILMING
Oh, she’s going to get...

PSYCHIC WITCH
No, no, no, you have to get
everyone off this plane! It’s going
to crash! You have to get everyone
off this plane — everybody get off
this plane!

SECURITY
This way.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Everyone get off this plane!

Psychic Witch CONTINUES TO SHOUT as she’s dragged off the

plane. There is a MURMURING throughout the cabin and a slight
smattering of APPLAUSE as her voice fades.

(laughing)
Oh man. That was — that was nuts.
Hope she’s wrong.

quite seem right...

A RINGING phone. A CLICK as the phone picks up.

PSYCHIC WITCH
(through the phone)
Hello.

KAITLIN
(skeptical)
Is this the, uh, “Psychic Witch”?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Of course.

KAITLIN
Hi. My name’s Kaitlin Le —

PSYCHIC WITCH
I’m afraid I’m not taking any new
bookings at the moment, Kaitlin.

KAITLIN
No, I’m not — I’m actually calling
about the flight.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I see. How can I help you?

KAITLIN
You knew the plane was going to
crash.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Yes.

KAITLIN
How?

PSYCHIC WITCH
(smiling)
I’m psychic, dear.

KAITLIN
Right.
(beat)
Could I — I’d really like to talk
to you. My brother was on the
flight.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Oh, I see. I’m so sorry. What was
his name?

KAITLIN
Conor.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Conor... hmmm.
(beat)
Yes, of course. I have some time
tonight. Nine o’clock? Come to my
apartment.

KAITLIN
OK, yeah, that sounds good. Thank
you.

4.4 INT. PSYCHIC WITCH’S APARTMENT - 9 P.M. 4.4

A KNOCK. The front DOOR opening.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Come in, dear.

KAITLIN
Thank you for agreeing to see me.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I’m sorry for the lateness of the
hour. I have to admit... my
business has seen quite the uptick
in the past few weeks. That video
of me got posted to a Reddit
something or other and... well.
Many people have been seeking my
services.

KAITLIN
Yeah, um — I saw that.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Please, sit down.

KAITLIN
Thanks.

Both SIT.

KAITLIN (CONT’D)
So, uh... do I call you Psychic
Witch? Is that your name?

PSYCHIC WITCH
(smiling)
You can call me Mia.

KAITLIN
OK. So, Mia... you’re the only one
who was on that plane who’s still
here. Who’s still alive.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Goodness, yes, I suppose that’s
true.

A train RUMBLES past Mia’s home.

PSYCHIC WITCH (CONT’D)

It’s strange, I’ve tried to contact
them.

KAITLIN
Contact who?
 PASSENGER LIST 1.04 6.

PSYCHIC WITCH
The passengers. All those people
who were on the flight. I’ve tried
to find them in the other world,
but I can’t.

KAITLIN
The other world?

PSYCHIC WITCH
The in-between space. When people
die, it can be a difficult
adjustment. They don’t always know
that they’re dead. They end up
lost. Reliving scenes from their
lives, creating a comfortable
landscape around themselves. Only
when they accept that they are dead
can they move on. Cross over to the
other side.

KAITLIN
(skeptical)
And until they do, you talk to
them?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Yes. Well, usually. Manhattan is
full of the restless dead. I talk
to spirits every day. But the souls
on that flight... they haven’t
crossed over, but they’re not here
either. They’re not anywhere.

KAITLIN
Maybe they’re in the sea.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Perhaps.
(beat)
Did you know that you have a
guardian? We all do, but I can see
yours. Right behind you.

KAITLIN
A guardian?

PSYCHIC WITCH
You were close to your brother,
weren’t you?

KAITLIN
(thrown by the question)
Um, yes.

PSYCHIC WITCH
You are halves of a whole. Together
in birth, but not in death. That
isn’t good. The universe prefers
balance. And now you are
unbalanced.

KAITLIN
I’m not sure I know what you mean.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Yes, you do. But — oh, I see. It
was already unbalanced, wasn’t it?

KAITLIN
Excuse me?

PSYCHIC WITCH
There was hurt between you. A fresh
wound over an old scar. You’ve
always been carrying his burden,
and now it’s even heavier.

KAITLIN
(uncomfortable)
I don’t — that’s not why I’m here.
Why did you want to get off the
plane?

PSYCHIC WITCH
You’ve seen the video.

KAITLIN
Yes, but I want to hear it from
you.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I had a feeling. I’ve learned to
trust my feelings. Do you trust
your feelings, Kaitlin?

KAITLIN
I’m not sure I’d be sitting here if
I did.

PSYCHIC WITCH
You don’t believe in what I do.

KAITLIN
(trying to be diplomatic)
I don’t think I understand what you
do. What you claim to do. I...

PSYCHIC WITCH
I read people. Sense their auras,
their pasts, their futures. I talk
to spirits. Or, rather, they talk
to me.

KAITLIN
And what do they say?

PSYCHIC WITCH
It wasn’t safe.

KAITLIN
(disbelieving)
The spirits told you that.

PSYCHIC WITCH
No, no it wasn’t the spirits. It
was an intuition. One that settled
deep into my bones. It was...
overwhelming. The ominous feeling.

KAITLIN
So you just got on the plane and
felt nervous?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Kaitlin, if you don’t believe in
what I do — which you clearly don’t
— why are you here? The video
should tell you everything you need
to know.

KAITLIN
I need answers. And I have pieces
of the story — more pieces than the
official investigation bothered to
look at — but I need to put it
together.

PSYCHIC WITCH
And you think I can help with that?

KAITLIN
I’d like to hear your story. Not
just what happened in the video —
the whole picture.

PSYCHIC WITCH
All right. If that will help you, I
can certainly try.

The Psychic Witch pauses before entering into a trance-like

state.

KAITLIN
What are you doing?

PSYCHIC WITCH
(speaking softly)
Going back to the plane in my
mind’s eye. It’s best if you speak
softly as I do this.

KAITLIN
OK...

PSYCHIC WITCH
Please try to keep your skepticism
to yourself — the negativity slows
down the process.

KAITLIN
(mumbling)
Sorry...

The Psychic Witch closes her eyes, and recounts the moments
before she left the plane.

PSYCHIC WITCH
(shivering dramatically)
It was cold. I remember that very
clearly. Cold air was blasting from
the vent — I tried to switch it
off, but it wasn’t working.

KAITLIN
Do you remember who was around you?
Anyone that stood out to you?

PSYCHIC WITCH
The Congressman.

KAITLIN
Congressman Harris?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Yes, that’s the one. He was in
business class, I think... must
have been. But he came back to talk
to someone. I think a journalist.
The moment the Congressman came
down the aisle, the journalist
pulled out his phone to record it,
but Harris just shook his hand. He
was looking very smug. Smiling,
glad-handing but... there was
something wrong with his aura — a
darkness to it. Spelled danger.

Kaitlin is skeptical but holding onto any piece of

information that might be useful.

KAITLIN
What — I...

PSYCHIC WITCH
(still in her trance
state)
There was a couple sitting across
the aisle — a man and a woman. She
was sweating and I remember
thinking, “It’s so cold, why would
she be sweating?” The man was
trying to make her comfortable...
kept asking stewardess for water.

KAITLIN
Do you remember who was sitting
next to you?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Yes. An Arab gentleman. Charming,
at first. He asked if I wouldn’t
mind moving so his wife could come
up and sit next to him. But she was
sitting in a middle seat, and I
have merinthophobia —

KAITLIN
What’s... merinthophobia?

PSYCHIC WITCH
The fear of being restrained.
Planes these days — the seats are
so close together that being in the
middle is like being tied up.

KAITLIN
So you didn’t move.

PSYCHIC WITCH
No. And the man became very icy to
me after that. He kept shooting
daggers at me — like I was being
inconsiderate for not moving. He
called out, “I’m sorry, Chrissy,
but we can’t sit together.” Very
passive-aggressive. That’s when
dread came over me like a thick
fog. I knew in that moment that the
plane was heading to disaster. I
tried to warn them but they refused
to listen.

She comes out of her concentrated state.

PSYCHIC WITCH (CONT’D)

That’s all I can recall.
(beat)
At least the doctor was probably
able to sit next to his wife.

KAITLIN
The doctor?

PSYCHIC WITCH
The man sitting next to me. He was
a doctor. Did I not mention that?

KAITLIN
No.
(beat)
He told you he was a doctor? Or...

PSYCHIC WITCH
He had a folder from the University
of Damascus. I asked him about it,
and he said he was a doctor doing
research there.

KAITLIN
What kind of research?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Something on immunology. He didn’t
go into it. That’s when he asked me
if I would move.

KAITLIN
(trying to make sense of
this)
Did the feeling of dread come from
the man sitting next to you? The
stewardess? Or the Congressman? Why
did it start?

PSYCHIC WITCH
I don’t know, dear. I’ve learned
not to question these feelings — to
just follow them. Everyone on that
plane was doomed. I could feel it
in my bones.

KAITLIN
But you said that Congressman
Harris had a dark aura about him.
 PASSENGER LIST 1.04 12.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Yes. Something insidious. It is
possible the feeling came from him.
Perhaps he had less than honorable
intentions. Or perhaps someone was
trying to hurt him.

KAITLIN
You think it’s possible he was
being targeted?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Anything’s possible, dear. But
surely there are easier ways to
kill a Congressman.

KAITLIN
Hm. OK, well, then what do you
think happened?

PSYCHIC WITCH
I honestly don’t have the faintest
idea.

KAITLIN
You’re a psychic.

PSYCHIC WITCH
That doesn’t mean I know
everything... at all times.

KAITLIN
(growing frustrated)
What do you know?

PSYCHIC WITCH
I know I’m glad I followed my
instinct. Or I’d be gone too.
(beat)
You think I should show more
compassion to those who were on
that flight. That I should feel
guilt.

KAITLIN
You saved yourself. But all those
other people are gone.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I tried. I tried to tell them, and
no one would listen. They wrote me
off as a nut job. That’s not my
fault.
(MORE)

PSYCHIC WITCH (CONT'D)

It’s not my fault the plane went
down. It’s not my fault that no one
believed me.

KAITLIN
They believe you now.

PSYCHIC WITCH
No they don’t. You don’t.

KAITLIN
Can you blame me? It isn’t exactly
easy to believe.

PSYCHIC WITCH
What other explanation is there?

KAITLIN
I can think of a few. What were you
doing in London, Mia?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Oh, I see. You suspect I’m involved
somehow.

KAITLIN
I didn’t say that. Why were you in
London?

PSYCHIC WITCH
I was in Europe on a business trip.

KAITLIN
Right.
(beat)
I’d like to show you something

Kaitlin PULLS OUT HER PHONE and brings up a video.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I don’t need to see the plane video
again, Kaitlin. I’ve seen it far
too many times. I lived it.

KAITLIN
This isn’t the plane video.

INT. INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT

JUDGE
The court will rise for sentencing.

The sound of CHAIRS SCRAPING on the floor as everyone rises.

 PASSENGER LIST 1.04 14.

KAITLIN
You recognize that man?

MIA
Oh yes, I... of course I do.

KAITLIN
Slobodan Begovic, former Croat-
Bosnian general. One of six
commanders incited for mass war
crimes. This is his trial six
months ago at the International
Tribunal in the Hague...

JUDGE
Mr. Begovic. Would you please
stand?

BEGOVIC
I will not. I do not accept the
jurisdiction of this court.

JUDGE
I’m afraid that is not up to you.

BEGOVIC
I reject the ruling of this court.
You cannot put me in prison —

Begovic UNCAPS a small vial of liquid and drinks it.

JUDGE
Mr. Begovic... monsieur... what are
you doing?

BEGOVIC
There. I have taken poison. You
will not imprison me.

There is instant COMMOTION in the court.

JUDGE BEGOVIC (CONT'D)

Call security in here- You will not imprison me!

COMMOTION continues and fades as we pull from the courtroom

to where Kaitlin and Mia are WATCHING the video on Kaitlin’s
phone.

PSYCHIC WITCH
(cold)
Why are you showing me this?

KAITLIN
You were there, weren’t you?
 PASSENGER LIST 1.04 15.

PSYCHIC WITCH
You saw for yourself — I’m not in
that video.

KAITLIN
But you were at the Hague. He was
your client.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I had left by the time Begovic
departed this existence.

KAITLIN
“Departed this existence”... that’s
quite a euphemism for avoiding a
life sentence through suicide.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Yes, well, he didn’t agree with the
court’s sentencing. I suppose...
that was his way of dissenting.

KAITLIN
Did you know he was going to do it?

PSYCHIC WITCH
No. I would have warned the court,
had I known. He may have been a
client, but he deserved the
sentencing he was given.

KAITLIN
You claim to be psychic, but you
didn’t know that your own client
was planning to kill himself?

PSYCHIC WITCH
As I said Kaitlin, I don’t know
everything. And I wasn’t there to
predict the future.

KAITLIN
What were you doing then?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Helping Mr. Begovic contact his
mother in the next life.

KAITLIN
Why?

PSYCHIC WITCH
He wanted to say goodbye.
 PASSENGER LIST 1.04 16.

KAITLIN
That didn’t raise a red flag for
you?

PSYCHIC WITCH
He was about to go to prison for
the rest of his life and then,
presumably, to a very different
afterlife than his mother. I didn’t
know that he was planning on moving
onto the next life so quickly. It
isn’t my job to make assumptions.

KAITLIN
That’s exactly your job. It’s all
speculation.

PSYCHIC WITCH
No, it’s not. But he didn’t ask me
about his future. He merely wanted
me to be a vessel for his mother.

KAITLIN
And were you?

PSYCHIC WITCH
Yes. And it was quite... well,
people aren’t as straightforward as
they seem, are they? Given what Mr.
Begovic did to his own people, one
wouldn’t think he could show the
depth of feeling he showed for his
mother. The remorse he expressed.

KAITLIN
He regretted what he did?

PSYCHIC WITCH
He was in a great deal of pain. And
he wanted to say goodbye to someone
he loved dearly. He wanted to ask
forgiveness. Who am I to deny him
that chance? Isn’t that what we all
want?

KAITLIN
Not all of us have committed
genocide.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I don’t discriminate when it comes
to putting a soul to rest. Mr.
Begovic got closure.

PSYCHIC WITCH (CONT'D)

Hopefully that means he won’t be a
dark shadow over the world in death
as he was in life.

KAITLIN
You may not discriminate, but it
still seems a pretty strange job,
wouldn’t you say? How did you even
get involved with someone like
that?

PSYCHIC WITCH
I am very good at what I do. Word
travels fast.

KAITLIN
Yeah, recently. But you made it
sound like business hadn’t been so
busy before the plane. How do
people know about you at the Hague?

PSYCHIC WITCH
I wasn’t always a psychic by trade,
Kaitlin. I used to live and work in
Europe.

KAITLIN
Doing what?

PSYCHIC WITCH
If you were able to find out what I
was doing before getting on that
plane in London, I’m sure you can
figure that out for yourself.

KAITLIN
(growing adamant)
And trust me, I will. You’re hiding
something. All this talk about the
Congressman and the doctor...
you’re creating distractions —

PSYCHIC WITCH
Distractions from what?

KAITLIN
From you. You knew the plane was
doomed, you work with criminals, or
—
 PASSENGER LIST 1.04 18.

PSYCHIC WITCH
So that means I must be involved?
There are plenty of psychics in the
world, Kaitlin, and even more
people who have worked in Europe at
one time or another. I’m not
special.

KAITLIN
You claim to be psychic, I’d say
that’s pretty special.

PSYCHIC WITCH
But I’m not special in a way you’d
like me to be. You want there to be
a reason for why I knew about the
plane — for there to be some
massive conspiracy. But there’s
not. The formal investigation
proved that.

KAITLIN
The investigation was closed too
soon — as far as I know, they
didn’t even look into your work in
the Netherlands. There has to be a
logical explanation for what
happened. A real one.

PSYCHIC WITCH
And you think I’m that explanation?
That I conspired to bring down a
plane, boarded that plane, only to
make a spectacle of myself and get
taken off? That’s your logical
explanation?

KAITLIN
It’s more logical than you actually
being a psychic.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Why are you here, Kaitlin? Why are
you doing this?

KAITLIN
I told you — for answers.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Digging into this won’t bring your
brother back. You need to accept
he’s gone and move on with your
life.
 PASSENGER LIST 1.04 19.

KAITLIN
Not until I find out the truth.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I don’t think that’s it. What’s
really driving you, Kaitlin? Are
you trying to avenge your brother?
Mourn him? Whatever’s motivating
you, it isn’t the truth.

KAITLIN
What are you talking about?

PSYCHIC WITCH
You’re afraid to know the truth.
Because the truth might involve
your brother.

KAITLIN
What? That’s insane. He didn’t do
anything. He had nothing to do with
this.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Your brother was Conor Le. I
remember seeing his name in the
news. Saving the world from what
would have been the worst
cyberattack in history. That was
him, correct?

KAITLIN
Yes.

PSYCHIC WITCH
He was a hero.
(beat)
But you think he was involved
somehow with what happened to the
plane.

KAITLIN
No, I don’t.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I’m psychic, dear, you can’t lie to
me.

KAITLIN
All right, that’s — I’ve indulged
you long enough but this — it’s all
— what you do — it’s all fake.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Why are you so angry?

KAITLIN
(incredulous)
Because you’re a phony! This entire
thing — the news, the investigation
— it’s all a lie.

PSYCHIC WITCH
And you’re the one who’s going to
uncover the truth.

KAITLIN
No one else is doing it!

PSYCHIC WITCH
And that will help you bury your
brother? Purge him from your life?

KAITLIN
I’m not trying to purge Conor —

PSYCHIC WITCH
Are you sure? You’re swallowed in
grief and anger, dear. It surrounds
you, suffocates everything bright
in your aura. If you let it, it
will consume you.

KAITLIN
You don’t know what you’re talking
about.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Don’t you have anyone to share this
pain with? You can’t carry it
alone.

KAITLIN
I’m not alone.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Excuse me for saying so, dear, but
you seem very alone at the moment.
Where are your parents? Surely they
can help you carry this burden.

KAITLIN
No, they’re in their own pain, and
I don’t — I have things under
control.

How about Conor? Did he have
someone? Someone he loved?

KAITLIN
Yes, but, we don’t — we don’t talk
much. I don’t know him that well.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Oh dear, you’re furious with him,
aren’t you? What did he do?

KAITLIN
Who, Thomas?

PSYCHIC WITCH
No, dear, Conor. What did Conor do?

KAITLIN
Nothing. He —
(beat)
Nothing.

PSYCHIC WITCH
When was the last time you saw your
brother, Kaitlin?

KAITLIN
That’s none of your business.

PSYCHIC WITCH
I’ve been very cooperative with
you, haven’t I? Told you what you
wanted to know.

KAITLIN
And why would you want to know
about me?

PSYCHIC WITCH
It’s what I do. Now tell me — when
was the last time you saw him?

KAITLIN
A few months before — before the
plane. He came to visit.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Something happened during that
visit, didn’t it?

KAITLIN
Nothing happened. He went back to
London and we were fine.

PSYCHIC WITCH
What was Conor doing on that plane?

KAITLIN
I don’t know.

PSYCHIC WITCH
You don’t? He wasn’t coming to
visit again?

KAITLIN
Not that I know of.

PSYCHIC WITCH
Hm. That is very strange, isn’t it?

KAITLIN
I don’t see how. Conor’s an
American — flying to America is a
pretty normal thing to do.

PSYCHIC WITCH
But not to tell his family about
it? Was he traveling for work, do
you think?

KAITLIN
I don’t know.

PSYCHIC WITCH
You don’t approve of his work.

KAITLIN
Conor was very good at his job.

PSYCHIC WITCH
But you didn’t like it. Why? He
helped us divert total disaster.
The news said that malware could
have taken down the stock exchange.
Your brother saved us.

KAITLIN
I know.

PSYCHIC WITCH
What are you hiding, Kaitlin?

A beat. Kaitlin doesn’t know how to respond.

PSYCHIC WITCH (CONT’D)

(with pity)
Oh, my dear, you never made it
right, did you?

You let him go back to London with
this hurt between you. And now it’s
too late.

KAITLIN
No, He knew. He knew that I loved
him, no matter what. I was just — I
was surprised. And angry. And

KAITLIN

a weird conversation, and I’d

DYLAN

KAITLIN

DYLAN
Yeah, right, I get that. But, I
mean, was there weirdness beyond

KAITLIN

DYLAN

KAITLIN

you already know.

KAITLIN

working on the ongoing
investigation.

KAITLIN
What do you mean, ongoing
investigation? I thought the FBI
had sewn everything up?

AGENT GERARD
With something this complex...

wreckage, we can’t yet truly close
