called nationalism. Nationalism binds us all in one thread, despite all of us having different customs, holding different beliefs, celebrating different festivals and speaking in different languages. Nationalism can be consider both constructive and destructive. Constructive nationalism- this type of nationalism is very harmonic and peaceful thought wave in which people love their country and can die for it. Our army is a perfect paragon of this they protect us from external threat without even thinking or caring of their lives their family. One the other hand Destructive nationalism is just opposite to previous one. This wave believe in superiority of races, religion, cast and skin colour this lead country to a unstoppable race for ruling on all over the world. Nationalism has its own limits. Too much of it could end up in meaningless fights among religion, nations. If you feel or talk proud of your religion or country. A person from another country or relegion would be bragging about the greatness of his nation. The problem arises when a people tries to dominate the other by speaking bad of each others values, beliefs, tradition. This is where Nationalism makes an individual forget the basic ethics and brings a hatred, jealous factor deep inside that person. Many Nationalist leaders are representative of one cultural group they promote their goals. Thus , they fail the main aim of nationalism or inclusive goal of a country. One major limitation of Nationalism is it can be use as a tool in election also, many political party tries to gain votes (for instance as recently in America, Donald trump tries to ignite nationalist feeling by prompting slogan like America first). Existence of multiple religions is a typical feature of India which signifies unity in diversity. But at the same time it is posing serious threat to nationalism. Communal clashes have become a common feature of Indian society Currently a popular crime i.e mob lynching is also because of different community and beliefs. Nationalism leads to racism and can be dangerous. It causes wars and history is witness to the fact that excessive nationalism leads to Fascism Hitler encouraged racism in the name of nationalism and said that Aryan race was the best race .He turned the Jews out of Germany. Nationalism is a danger to world peace and civilization. The small national sovereign states are a source of rivalry and war between strong and powerful nations. Like Russian federation annexed Crimea from Ukraine. It demands a country to shun itself from rest of the world as recently UK voted to Brexit, the british exit from the European union. They don't join global organizations or collaborate with other countries on joint efforts Nationalism also affect Economy that specifically prioritizes domestic businesses. It advocates protectionism and other trade policies that protect local industries. President Trump initiates economic nationalism when he announced tariffs on steel and Chinese imports. Economic nationalism opposes immigration because it takes jobs away from domestic workers. Trump's immigration policies followed nationalism when he promised to build a wall on the border with Mexico. Nationalism has a very broader scope it can’t merely reduce to one religion it has to do with society one owns identity. Throughout history nationalism has been used as a driving agent, to bring the masses together to achieve a common goal. Any nation that has risen to the heights of its prosperity has used nationalism as a driver. We attain independence through the overriding spirit of nationalism. Gandhiji sparked nationalist sentiments within the people of India and carried out khadi movement and boycott of british goods successfully. Nationalism is good only as long as society needs it and should discarded soon after it served the purpose for.
