This paper deals with parameter estimation of Chaboche cyclic plasticity model by nonlinear least square
method. Identification of model parameters is presented using material data of BS11 rail steel from Peng-
Ponter [Int J Sol Struct 31 (1994) p.807]. The first guess of model's parameters and properties of fitting function
is briefly described for three basic curves: static stress-strain curve, cyclic stress-strain curve and large
hysteresis loop. Assumed version of the Chaboche model has only two parts of kinematic tensor (vector). For all
that resulting stress-strain response of the plasticity model coresponds very well with the input data. The paper
is not concerned with calibration of the Chaboche model to describe ratchetting effect. The original function of
MathCad 11 and own procedures written in Visual Basic for Application of MS Excel were used to perform
presented computations.

Introduction
In this paper we suppose only two parts of the kinematic vector in the Chaboche cyclic
plasticity model [1]. Then determination of parameters  Y ,C 1 , 1 , C 2 is the task of model
calibration. Full text of the paper contains sequence of parameters guess for identification
from monotonic stress-strain curve, cyclic stress-strain curve and hysteresis loop. Nonlinear
least square method results are presented using material data of BS11 rail steel [2]. Fitting
functions derivation is quite easy ([1], [3]). Here we summarize only resulting relations:

Presented way of the Chaboche model
parameter estimation is not only one, but
is easy and sufficient. Procedure of
parameters guess for all three assumed
cases is presented in full text version of

this paper. In practise it is recommended CHABOCHE
to come from static stress-strain curve in GUESS
monotonic loading case and cyclic stress-
strain curve in cyclic loading case. By
combining the Chaboche model with an
isotropic hardening model further
capability of simulating cyclic hardening
or softening is possible. The ratchetting
effect, which could be simulated with ε x [1]
Chaboche model is not assumed in the
paper. In this sence we refer to PhD thesis Fig. 1 - Results of calibrated model
[3]. Also for nonisotermal conditions case we refer to Ph.D. work, this time [4]. The
